One that fits, has enough padding to protect the pony's back & isn't bought just to follow the current 'trend' in showing saddles!

They tend to need very flat neat trees unless VERY wide and round in the ribcage in which case they might need a hoop tree, and we often use front gussets on the tricky ones where everything runs forwards. Best thing you can do is find a good saddle fitter who can bring out a range of showing/WH saddles for you to try that might work for a flat backed native and yes, do make sure they have a reasonable depth of panel - look at the condition of back muscles under those very very close contact saddles, which tend to sit down at the back as well.

can i assure dancer that i only put saddles that fit on my ponies, my older fell has worn a samantha for over 8 years and wn up and down the country. he has never been uncomfortable or had any back problems, i bought the samantha because it fitted. i do not follow trends
