We tragically lost Trifle to colic last night. I had the pleasure of having him the last 9.5 years and He was a delight to have in the yard. I have never felt an affinity to a horse as I have to him. He was not widely used, and I certainly bought him for my mares! although we had a few over the years? However, the number of horses he bred that have been successful at a the highest level in the showing world, has been outstanding. Classictop Totty, Abbeys Fair Breeze, Classictop Sweet Enough, Abbeys Finale, Holtess House of Cards, Fielden Classictop, Nutwood Trillium and Nutwood Trivium, Encore, High Fidelity to name but few.
Just as importantly people used to call me to ask if they could use him because they already had a hunter or all rounder that was special by him and wanted another. I spent hours sitting in his stable with him and his managerie. Last night while we were waiting for the vet to come and do the deed, we had his sheep friend - quaver, the 2 stable cats, and the chicken that had all taken up regular residence in his box. He loved them all and was so gentle with them that they felt safe to stay there all night at times.
RIP Trifle xx
