HI i have 2 coloured mares one is a lead rein show pony type 5yrs old, the other is a 16hh native type 6yr old. I am thinking of trying our first Chaps show this weekend at southview BUT the native has only got half her feather due to being clipped out over winter would this go against her she doesnt grow masses of feather anyway, As she is only 6yr i was only going to do the novice native. Do i have to become a member ?? what is envolved in becoming a member she is passported with irish sports horse but all her passport says is unknown just her year of birth ? Can i change her passported name when she is registered with CHAPS / bspa which is better CHAPS or BSPA ?? The lead rein we are just doing the inhand this show, Can she wear a fancy browband ?? she is a show pony type but we had been showing her as a hunter as she is coloured and the judges where not keen on a coloured show pony (not Chaps or bspa classes)
Any help is appreciated !!

You don't have to become a member to show in CHAPS classes, but better if you do, cheaper entries and the CHAPs Champs! You have to keep your horses original name, CHAPS and BSPA will overstamp his passport. Your lead rein can wear a fancy browband if plaited. I would join CHAPS initially, then BSPA if you want to do RIHS qualifiers later. xx

As leevale said with CHAPS memebership you can compete in HOYS qualifiers, CHAPS champs and other championship shows with CHAPS affiliated classes (if you qualify.) BSPA membership allows you to compete in RI qualifiers. Unless you are intending to compete regularly in affiliated classes/qualifiers I would probably save your money, my traditional qualified for the coloured classes as the BSPS winter champs but because I had no intention of taking him I didn't bother making myself a member. We are however members of the BSPA as we are having a bash at some RI quals this year, membership is £55 but don't forget both owner and rider/handler have to members of CHAPS/BSPA to compete in certain classes
