Samantha and a ray the same saddle... They both maybe working hunter saddles but they are completely different! I have used a Hayden, Samantha, Marjorie, Mick, Ray and an emma all lovely saddles I do prefer haydons and samanthas on the ponies nothing bigger but personal preference, what I love is the fit and the overall look and make of the saddle. Also how they can be stretched when your horses changes shape as I've had a lot of younger ones this has been great for me. We don't follow the trend we have used these for over 14 years now. I had one problem with one saddle once we are very friendly with Peter went down and he helped us out majorly never a problem since. All of our ponies/horses backs are perfectly fine. They is some people out there who buy fyldes as everyone has one I have been messaged many of times asking what saddle I use and which type should they have. I tell them what would look best and as I have only ever used fylde and can highly recommend the saddles they end up buying a fylde. Just like the bridles I have had one for 11 years and after an oil it looks brand new, it hasn't even been looked after the best but the quality is great. I am actually taking a trip up there soon as I need some new gear.

I Agree wondering... I've had both a Samantha and a Ray VS and they're not the same at all, for a fact if they were the same then how come when Peter tried on the Samantha in the exact same size and width as the Ray VS i bought it didn't fit? Surely if they were the same saddle they would both fit and just have a different price tag? Nope!!! Think someone is trying to cause trouble here!

Yes I had a 17" Marjorie on my Welsh D mare to short on the back so bought 18" perfect as they do only measure at 17.5 but a ray 17" fits perfect, they are all different. Reading this thread I do think your right someone has tried to cause trouble but fylde being well known and as popular as they are it hasn't worked!

I use Fylde saddles purely because they fit, nothing to do with trend. I struggled a long time to get a saddle to fit my old fell mare. I was told by another well known saddler that I would never get a saddle to fit her as she was too wide and round! What a load of rubbish. I then went to Fylde and have never looked back. The saddle peter fitted for her was perfect and never moved an inch. My fell gelding has a Fylde which fits perfect. I have been looking for months for a cheap saddle to break in my young fell and am struggling like mad. Looks like its another Fylde for me, but purely because I know it will fit, nothing to do with the trend at all.

Dottydog. I think I may not have been quite precise in my post. They are made by the same company and short of a bit of suede and a tag with different names on the same saddle. As I said easy to google and I have owned them

So basically, according to your post that means all black country saddles, farrington and all saddle making companies saddles are the same because they're made by the same company with a different tag and name and a different shade of leather/suede... Really think you need to do some research if google is your main backup! I can google what my jobs going to be in twenty years doesn't mean it's true. If you're going to try and slate a company please get your facts right and have some truth and proof!! rant over!

They are on different trees with different flaps meaning they are different saddles! Different trees fit diffferent horses, different flaps fit different riders and types of classes. We too make lots of different saddles and even those that look similar may fit both horse and rider very differently.

I phoned Fylde Saddlery with regards to a bridle I purchased from them and my Dartie being the most awkward to fit. They couldn't have been more helpful and the service was the best I've ever had from a saddlers, they could teach other Saddlers a few things in customer service.

Welshie girl..why the rant lol....chill out.. I have not slated any company in fact the owner of Fylde as I have previously put is a lovley helpful man and as I said I have owned many Fylde saddles. I really dont see where I am slating him or his company? I have a point of view and by no means is it slander or is google my main source of information so before you attempt to patronise me, someone who is in control of emotions and not making spurious accusations try reading what I have put.

I had a rant because the statement you made was incorrect. If you can claim to be able to tell saddles are the same by looking on google and owning them, then surely everyone would be experts on every bit of tack or horse they owned but its not the case. Maybe you do have more knowledge and some kind of training in saddlery? Maybe I shouldn't of used the word slate however claiming that all saddles are the same with a bit of suede and a more expensive price tag could be seen as slating someones company because it may put people off and it's incorrect. I never claimed it was slander? you're entitled to your point of view, but using google is not a reliable source of evidence to back that point up. I am perfectly in control of my emotions...The use of exclamation marks does not mean I'm not it just means I'm expressing my opinion strongly lol. I have read what you put and stick by my conclusion.

I like the look of the Fylde Ray but a perfectly happy with my Andrea Hicks (formerly NPSC) saddles. I did have one Fell in a Fylde Samantha - most uncomfortable saddle I have ever sat on! Looks lovely in the show ring, but if you want to do anything more practical like hacking in it, it's not my cup of tea! I spoke with fylde recently and I'm sure he said a Samantha was for a show pony type and a Hayden for the flatter back native. I used to have a Samantha and found it uncomfy but like the Hayden.

They are totally different. And the Ray is even more different. Someone needs to understand what a tree in a saddle is, how to spot saddles made on different trees, and to not keep defending a totally incorrect theory!

We have always had Fylde saddles, they fit just about everything we have. We certainly dont buy them because they are trendy to be honest I would love to find a saddle that fits as well as they do on natives as it would save me a fortune. My daughter ever does workers in hers as she finds it the most comfy saddle and cannot get on with a worker type saddle

I know this is an old thread, but having come across this, I need to respond. I would like to clear up one thing - the Fylde Ray Working Hunter has been made exclusively by my husband for well over 25 years. He does not employ anyone and every saddle has been made individually by him and no-one else! Please make sure you have your facts right before venting your opinions!

Just to ressurect this thread - I have A Fylde Ray plus, only saddle not to roll on my Fell. Tried lots of others always revert back to it. There is a good reason Fylde fit HRHs Fells ! Just wondered what everyone uses as a pad under theirs?
