It is with great sadness I have to report the death of this 2 year old gelding. Bertie was bred by myself and was the kindest most beautiful pony. He was bought by Lizzie, as a foal, when she was only 12 years old. She was given the choice of a laptop for her birthday or bertie and she chose him. He loved her to bits and would follow her around the field like a dog. She spend hours with him just talking to him or laying next to him in the field ~ he adored her and she loved him.
I have been out all day today and at tea time I got her mum on the phone in tears asking me to go to the stables urgently as he wasn't well and the vet was there. When I got there the vet explained that he had twisted his gut so badly that operating wasn't an option and he needed putting to sleep straight away. Both mum and daughter were distraught, and still are. Me and my daughter stayed with him whilst he went to sleep and was out of pain at last.
Such a waste of a young beautiful pony with a great life and future ahead of him. He will be missed by all but especially by Lizzie.
