On the subject of atmosphere here are my thoughts (for what they are worth) When I go to these shows I am purely a spectator so atmosphere is really the only thing I feel, I have only myself to worry about so I do a lot of sitting and observing! The way I look at PUK champs is that its like an outdoor concert, you have people strung out over a wider area in clusters having picnics or mini socials, watching from vehicles or ponies, gettimg distracted by whats going on around them etc - its harder to gee up a crowd outdoors. You really can't compare this to the condensed environment of (for example) Arena UK where you have the people in a smaller space in forward facing seats with four walls around them and the noise bouncing off the walls. I looked forward to PUK as a nice elegant classy outdoor evening performance the same way as I look forward to Equifest with the hugely enjoyable and slightly chaotic carnival atmosphere in the same way that I look forward to BSPS with its glamorous gala atmosphere - all very different all very enjoyable With specific reference to PUK I thought it was odd that the grandstand was not by the evening performance ring, if they swapped this with the hospitality tent (which has sides on so not really a viewing area) they would create a bit of a barrier with the centre walk behind and this would draw more people in and cosy things up a bit I think. I thought the main evening ring was better this year, closer to the people and with an angled line up so everyone could get a good view With that, having dealt with my own very grumpy wet ponies I am donning coat and hat and heading back to Stoneleigh for the last of the classes

I agree harrypatch, outdoors naturally won't be as electric as indoor, however, at puk in 2007 (outdoors), the evening was incredible! So much fun, lots of atmosphere and plenty to watch! A huge arena to really show off in, and some serious galloping! It was really something to get into the evening then, and really something to watch!! I really just didn't get that feel from puk this year.
Of course we appreciate all they do, it takes hard work and dedication to pull of these shows. But at £25 a class, and rosettes only going to 6th in most (if not all) classes, I feel a little robbed. A championship show should feel like more than an every day show, and I really didn't feel that this year.

2nd in lr could have been Tom quiney on Dennis Morgans lowland pony. If so then they had a good day if Blondie also won fr! Do we know what won LR?? As Tom may have qualified the chestnut.

I didnt encounter any rude stewards or office ladies... And i was there all 3 days. I was however, disapointed with the worker ring, but the course builder built some outstanding courses. Suprisingly the worker ring was in good condition today even withthe rain, it was the surface arenas that were underwater, you pretty much had to paddle through a massive puddle to get in the rings. And also, the entries were ridiculous, wayyyyyy to expensive. I love the venue, but unfortunatly the atmosphere didnt feel like a championship show. But i can safely say i was soaked to the bone this morning, and not even allowed to wear a coat:(

I think the workers ring is a specialist grass set up with better built in drainage than even the surfaces

148 show ponies so close together in the line up despite having a good sized ring. one pony has been kicked, I heard the crack from a distance! Pony seems ok but has retired, another pony (I think the one that did the kicking) also retired, both girls upset ETA - kicked pony still in the ring, I think it's staying in! ETA - kicked pony trotted up ok and stayed in to take 3rd
