Not exc 143 workers, amy smith on her sisters connie. I shall be making a complaint to ncpa, and not supporting their show again, when entering i was led to believe that the workers were on the grass, i would not of entered if I had known it would be on the surface as I dont rate the surface much there. The arena is also imo not big enough to build a qualifying course in. Although the 12s and most of the 13s managed ok, the bigger ponies struggled. The ground was not to hard to jump on at all, everyone managed at cheshire, lincoln, three counties were the ground was more or less the same as it is at rodbaston. It also says something when even one of the judges is not best pleased that it is on the surface and not the grass. That being said, I would like to say what a pleasure it was to be judged by such a friendly and cheerful judge today. And a top tip for those jumping tommorow, unless you want to walk miles to the ring i would suggest getting there early else they will park you the other side of the showground. I get the impression that you are just down on this show full stop!!!!! Going back to the chat about forthcoming events topic on this show you were moaning about the Hoys placings. You also said and I quote "although it's great to jump on the surface......." They also posted the change from grass to indoor 2 days before the show, you posted on that topic after the change was posted so maybe you should have raised your concerns then and saved your time and diesel. I'm sure the committee would have obliged. I've been there since Friday, the rain we had on Friday night (and boy did it rain!!!!) mad NO impression on the ground and certainly didn't make it any better to jump on. The show went on for just short of 12 hours yesterday with another full day to come today. The committee worked longer than that yesterday as they will today. Well done NCPA Staffs. Yet another very well run show. Fingers crossed we come home with great results today.

I had previously been told that the surface here was poor but there appears to be a new surface which was lovely to ride on - Some horses and riders struggled as not been in doors for a while BUT was a good test for HOYS and all winners were deserved - No placings for us but had a great day seeing many friends
Thank you NCPA staffs for your hard work putting on the show and a big thank you to the stewards in the worker ring who were there all day to our benefit

One thing I will say is how disappointed I am that in the HOYS M&M WHP rosettes were only given to 5th place. This is not the first show that this has happened!! We all pay our entries and HOYS levey and to only give a rosette to 5th is just wrong.

But when you are led to believe its on grass, but its moved to a small arena, I have nothing against arenas, my ponies have jumped clears all year on surfaces. We are all entitled to our own opinion, and yes I do think its disgusting that when there are rarely fewer than 20 in my classes and they can only place to 6th when the entries cost over £30. I just personally don't understand it, everyone moans when its rained, im sorry these are working HUNTER ponies, they are meant to be able to do a days hunting, what happens of they've had abit of good frost and the ground is very hard out hunting! im sorry but every competitor I spoke to in the workers today and yesterday said they were not impressed it was moved inside, even one of the worker judges said they didn't understand why it wasn't on the grass.

It is interesting to read the comments about holding the WHP classes indoors! Two years ago lots of complaints about the ground being too hard, last year after torrential rain complaints about the slippery going! On Thursday after inspecting the ground the committee decided to hold the classes indoors (the decision was reported online) The going in both the jumping and conformation arenas was perfect. The conformation arena was huge compared to the narrow strips often provided! The jumping arena was of sufficient size to allow a challenging course to be built which tested both a pony's jumping ability and perhaps more tellingly a riders ability to negotiate an interesting course. At HOYS the competition is indoors and on a surface so good practice there. Those riders who rose to the challenge made a wonderful job and achieved excellent results. The committee made the decision thinking that it was in the best interests of the exhibitors and I think they were absolutely right! My only observation would be that horses have four legs that they use all the time to the best of their ability, WE have two legs.......... !!!!!!!!!! Lovely show, great hospitality and very enjoyable classes to judge!
