Just wondering if anybody could guide me on clipping for HOYS. I know its not worth trying to rug and keep his coat as pretty thick already. Her coat normally takes months to come through after a winter clip would it take as long if I clipped now??

I clipped my grey one month before hoys and his coat was a tad weani bit to long, if I took him again I would do it 3 weeks, he was rugged up with body suit and heavy weight which kept his coat in good condition he did look v good and it was just enough time for his dappled to grow back through.

When you clip give her a hot wash with water and brown vinegar dont ask me how or why but it works and the coat grows smoothly .. plus loads of rugs

What colour is your pony? Mine is Palomino so always rug her to keep it as looks Cremello clipped lol If I was clipping would do 2 weeks before lots of hot washing as above

Don't forget that a coat will take longer to come through after a winter clip as the winter is not a shedding season. If you clip now while the winter coat is coming through the coat will grow quicker because its actively growing than if you clip in November/december when the winter coat is usually in place and the spring coat change is some time away
not that I am suggesting you do clip now - have no experience of HOYS coats - the closest I will ever get to HOYS is using a week's annual leave to sit in the stands!

You dont say if your pony is an M and M or a sp/shp . We clipped our shp 10 days before hoys and both years he looked fab x I agree with the water and vinegar . We also swopped to turning out at night rugged up with a lycra and a full neck turnout

Depends on the pony .. for example, our m&m gelding is clipped twelve days before Hoys ... our m&m stallion does not need clipping at all Good luck @ Hoys, hope you have a fab show
