My 4 year old cob I bought two months ago has a really big problem with having a bridle on, or anything to do with the bridle. Don't get me wrong once it's on she's fine, but she panics like mad whilst having it put on like she's had some sort of trauma. I have tried everything I know, and it doesn't seem to be getting any easier. What can I do? Are there any other methods I can try?

Is your cob ok with a halter being put on ? Is it to do with the bit or just bridle or the combination ?

It might sound daft and over simple but my horse needed an extra full browband on a full size bridal, once she had her special needs big head browband she settled to wearing her bridal, the fuss over a tight head piece was epic. Good luck x

She's fine with a halter, she's no problem with that, and once the bridle is on she's fine with the bit, it just seems as soon as she sees the bridle she panics and starts running round and rearing up a little, I have tried a larger bridle and brow band but it was huge on her, she's only got a small head x

Have you had her ears checked? She could have painful ear plaques or an infection. You might find it easier to put the bridle on in pieces, without the bit attached, so you don't have to pull her ears through. Attach the bit last. Good luck.

I take it to pieces before I put it on, I undo the cheek pieces and take the reins off, I will get her ears checked this weekend. Thank you x
