Is there anyone at HOYS for the plaited workers today that also saw the M&M workers yesterday? I would be interested to know how different the course is to that of yesterday? I know that the plaiteds are allowed +10cm, and the M&M's +5cm, and obviously there is a difference in the width, but there seems a huge difference between the two sections now. At a risk of being shot down, is the plaited getting too difficult and the M&M easier? One for debate on another post perhaps? I thought yesterday's track seemed about right from a spectators view eg not lots and lots of clears, a couple of really different 'looky' fences such as a double of curved walls and a tractor and trailer. I think there were only two or three eliminations across the classes in total. It seemed both tricky but not dishearteningly difficult to me but I guess the competitors may see that differently! For the competitors this morning it sounds like they may go away feeling a bit sour where I'm not sure anyone yesterday would have (if that makes sense!)

I tend to agree, very good course yesterday. But then the ex 143 produced 7 clears which I think is quite a lot so it turns into a confirmation class.

Not then forgetting that m&ms can be piloted by adults whereas these are just children. Is it any wonder that the plaited struggle more same size animals jumping bigger tracks in the same space, how the intermediates jump 1.25 in that arena is beyond me consider the cuddy is 1.24cm is in the international

I think the plaited class is extremely challenging and I take my hat off to all of those children competing at HOYS this week

I think then what geegee21 is saying is right, it certainly is easier for the m&ms compared to the plaiteds

This years winner has always got round courses. He was placed 10 years ago and has won at RI also ; a much deserved winner .The change has been in the demands made by the qualifiers. The 133 cms M and M class is a relatively new introduction and a very different test.

I think the plaited class is extremely challenging and I take my hat off to all of those children competing at HOYS this week Yesterdays exc 143cm had 6 clears and 6 on a pole - and there were 16 in the class. Two of those ponies are in the 15hh today (and others jump the 153 tracks) and I wish them the best of luck. I also think that last year there were a number of clears in this height section. A really valid point about adults in the M&M's over smaller tracks, and combinations in the plaiteds just getting together and the child is out of class.

The 133 is such a big ask when you consider some of the jockeys are just out of nursery stakes and have limited mileage jumping those big tracks

Thank you thatboythatgirl - I was just interested to compare HOYS heights now with what daughter was jumping years ago. Now all I have to do is work out the metric version, I still think in feet and inches.

In defence of M&Ms - for those who wish to do flat as well as WHP classes, the ponies will often be 'under-height' in the workers - our Section C is 138 cm so spot on for flat classes but still has to jump the 143 cm tracks. Not that we have done any of these yet as we've only just got the pony, but thought I'd mention it!

Meant to add to previous post that, I imagine, most plaited ponies doing WHP classes also do SHP classes and are, therefore, in most cases, up to height for both disciplines.
