Does anybody know if a standard ( 40") Shetland can reach and eat comfortably from the " Pony " size Hay Bar? I would be very grateful if someone could tell me yes or no.

I got my local fencing contractor to make mine for pony foals, just made a triangle of tongue & groove wood, then screw 2'' x 1'' onto wall then screw triangle of wood onto, saved us a fortune, if you pm your email I'll send you a photo.

Yes they can! When we first put ours in we had a 36" Shetland - the only thing we did as the amount of hay he had was tiny compared to the amount the hay bar holds was to wedge sections of a straw bale in the bottom to reduce its capacity. You also need to make sure you don't fix it with the bottom much above floor level.
