Hello I have noticed some pin prick size spots/bumps on my yearlings nose? Teeny tiny little ones, feel a little scabby, I tried to get a picture but he just stuck his nose into the camera! Only around his muzzle area, they aren't painful to him or causing him discomfort and they haven't spread, they have been there for a few days. I was going to ask the vet but thought I would ask on here first to see if anybody has any clue? He has a dark muzzle so I don't think its some kind of sunburn, I am thinking he has had his nose in something prickly or nettles? I read on the H & H forum that young horses are prone to small little bead size spots on their muzzle like warts, so they should be ok as long as they don't spread and should sort them self out. Can my older horse catch them? Any help/experience appreciated Thanks

It is quite common for youngsters particularly foals and yearlings to get these warts and they should not be a problem, disappearing after time. I personally have never had found them being transferred to other horses, and the odd youngster of mine that had them always grazed in a herd and remained the sole pony to have them. Just keep an eye on them, but don't worry unduly I am sure other breeders will agree they are common.
