Vicky Myrondis won the C Class with C Easter Parade so Nicky Musson took the ticket in 2nd with Popsters TC. A's was Sam Roberts riding Idyllic Spartacus. Not sure about the B's but I think CV Bentley was 2nd and Milford Fair Breeze 3rd sorry not sure on winners name. Zara Johnstone won the small breeds with Pumphill Fandango - well done Zara.

3rd - Strathleven Drumochter 7th - Macdougaldene Lots of lovely highlands (HOYS/RI ponies) forward but they only placed to 7th. It was a great class with some gorgeous ponies who were an absolute credit to their owners. Got to agree, however, as is very often the case in mixed classes, it was a Fell day... can anyone answer a couple of questions for me please, simply out of curiosity and I genuinely do not understand the reasoning behind what I am about to ask? What is the point of mixed breed classes at all, when all the breeds have their own classes at HOYS etc anyway. Very difficult to compare two or three totally different breeds in a class, that are worlds apart. I would guess that a long time ago this was down to numbers in the individual classes being insufficient to have separate classes, but as this is no longer the case, surely this needs reviewing. You are always down to wether the judge prefers one breed to another, no matter how well or nice another breed is. I personally can no longer see the point of mixing breeds, as the M&M classes are now mostly the biggest at shows, so insufficient numbers is rarely an issue now. I also do not understand why some shows place to 6th, some to 7th, some to 10th and some to 12th? Surely as these are affiliated Qualifiers, the level of placings should all be to the same number? Thanks in advance to anyone who can help?

Thanks in advance to anyone who can help? Can't answer the reasoning behind number of placings - just down to individual shows, but also no qualifications in these types of classes go below 3rd or 5th, so that may have a bearing. Regarding the finals at HOYS - there are not separate classes for each breed (Fells & Dales are together, as are Dartmoor/Exmoor & Shetlands) I do have a point make regarding the judging of mixed breed classes however - the animals are being judged against their own breed standard first & foremost as well as way of going, & then against each other. So for example if the Fell pony was judged to be shall we say 90% perfect in all respects & the Dales Pony 95%, then the Dales would stand above the Fell & also above another Fell who was deemed 93% perfect & so on & if the Highland animal was judged to be 96% in all respect that would stand above both the other breeds in that classes. Obviously performance is 50% of the marks in these classes so this may have a greater influence on results if there are some good animals who do not perform to their best on the day. Judges may have "favourite" breeds (ones they breed themselves, show etc) but this should not influence their judging regarding placings any more than in any other type of class PS Of course judges can only place what is in front of them & if some competitors perceive that a judge has a preference for a particular breed or type within a breed, then presumably there could be more of this type/breed forward? A good example of ANY breed is a joy to judge IMO

the numbers forward for the h,f,d classes are huge now. Do you think it is time to give them their own class at Hoys? Don't follow the small breeds unsure if there are enough there to do it. When I first started spectating at Hoys before the highlands got there own class you were lucky to see 2/3 in the final. Having a separate class seems to have boosted the numbers out.
