C/D - 1st Fiona Cork Menai Celtic Hero; 2nd Alex Williams and Ringside D; 3rd Aimee D and Lynuck Showman Champion was Hannah and the Connie and Lucy Glover Reserve with Carrwood Shimmering Gold. Some fantastic classes today, well done to everyone who got placed such tough classes but a plea.
COME ON HICKSTEAD PLEASE GET THESE CLASSES INTO A PROPER RING. River Lawn is so appalling, there were trees put all over the place to cover pot holes, people had been filling them in at night. It is so upppy downy it just showed how well schooled these ponies are but the ring was tiny for the show. How can our large native breeds show themselves off in a postage stamp. They had to split the go round for the large breed sections as well. This is just not good enough I reckon the levy earned from the Heritage classes must be one of the biggest for Hickstead so please every year we have to put up with a pot holed, uneven and fly ridden ring surely it is time to rethink and move them.

I totally agree and it's also dreadful from a spectator's perspective too.

We have never been to RI before and I have to say thought the ring was very disappointing. We got moved to ring 7 which was no more than fenced field which you could have ridden in at any local show. It was a lovely show with a great atmosphere but it would have been nice to feel more involved in the M&m classes and get a ring to ride in that felt like you had qualified for something special. As someone said the Levys must allow RI to do more than this.

I have competed at Rihs for 15 years in other classes (plus always do the Derby show!) I have NEVER managed to even find the River Lawn ring!!! Surely it ought to be a bit more prominent....... I'm sure a popular SJ class wouldn't be hidden away

Ring 3 was awful too. Undulating, uneven rough grass cover and rock hard. Not good enough for a championship show.

Have ridden pretty much every where. No atmosphere at all in that river lawn ring extremely disappointing.
Didn't feel prestigious or special.
But that's just my opinion.
Shopping good though!!!!!😁
Can't beat being in the championship at gt York's or royal highland for a good feeling!

Completely agree !!! I'm sure we ll try to qualify again next year but will have to think seriously due to the state of the rings. The river lawn was a disgrace. Like concrete in places. My horse went down a pothole in the conformation Many ponies changed legs in the championship due to the enormous dip in the track and riders were getting snagged up in the trees. Not to mention the random Xmas trees planted in assuming to disguise the ground ! There's no room for spectators and the whole thing felt very flat Not prestigious as these winners deserve ! We also competed in the young rider classes on wed which were moved to frankly a back field at the very last minute Again rabbit holes everywhere. On a slope which I know the ponies should cope with but you never see the hack classes in such rings. Not even a commentator with a microphone to announce the winners. Felt very much like a day out at a local show ! At least however this championship is held in the main ring which is very special Why not do the same with the opens ? I've heard many complaints from m and m competitors this year re the rings and hope we put pen to paper to hickstead! Just to add this is not a slur on any of the judges or stewards who worked tirelessly too all day I'm sure they too would rather be in a more prestigious and level setting !

I totally agree about the state of the River Lawn ring & ring 7 which the Young Rider championship was in on Wednesday. Neither rings have any atmosphere at all & after the rain on Wednesday morning Ring 7 ,which was a turnout field, was so slippery on the slopes & riders had to duck under trees too. I was relieved when the Young Riders was moved from the River Lawn but it was no better. Next year I will be reluctant to bother with RI qualifiers if they don't put the M & M Championships in sensible rings that are flat & have good going. We are treated as afterthoughts compared to the other championships. Also another moan about the water tap for the stables !! One tap for all the stables at the bottom near the photographers & shop!! And I have heard a lot of people say how dirty the horsebox park was & everything was covered in dust including the competitors & horse boxes & myself!!!
