I was wondering that too Philippa - I did hear that she had a broken leg - but I don't know anymore than that. Poor lady.

Oh that's good news. I heard all sorts of horror stories that the bone had come straight out and both her legs were broken!!
Hope she gets back to full fitness soon.

That sounds horrible what happened? , someone was taking back bandages off a horse before it went into ring and it kicked backwards and caught her on the shins.

I saw a post on the CSL Facebook page of a woman praising the team after her disaster morning so i imagine that was her?
I came 4th in the A&B Olympia, for the third year running, maybe next year we will manage to move up haha! Pulled 3rd behind Plasderw Nathaniel and Waitwith Gold Dust so i was thrilled with that already, then i went to risk a canter on a straight line away from the judge towards the collecting ring gate but it didn't work in my favour so a little blip there dropped us down. Judges and stewards in the White Rose ring were fabulous and friendly.
Unfortunatley saturdays WHP class left a sour taste and we have made a complaint to YAS, I've copied and pasted this from our review of them on their Facebook page so in places it may not make sense, but you get the idea of what happened. Our class was due at 12.30, we were ready at the ringside to warm up for the class at 12.10, there was no warm up jump to start with but one appeared (just the 2 wings & 1 pole? so no way of having a good jump over a spread or starting with a X pole as i usually like to do) on the grass, where the ground was quite soft. We waited for the dogs to finish in the indoor arena and the course to be set, I went in to jump at 1.15pm, 45 minutes after the start time in the catalogue (I fully understand that things can run over but this has happened the past 4 times I have attended this show so maybe this is a planning thing that should be looked at?) when the class was finally ready to begin we felt very rushed by the lady who seemed to be the main steward for the ring, even going as far as putting her hand on my mother (what looked to be a gentle shove), who was cleaning the ponies legs at the time, to hurry her along! We & a number of other competitors found her extremely rude in the manner she spoke to us all. I understand she wanted to get everything going as soon as possible, as did we, but this could've been done in a far more polite & friendly way, instead of telling us to "get on with it" & "hurry up, come on" . I personally felt like instead of a paying competitor we were treat more like a display in the indoor arena? I know we technically are a display but we have paid for the pleasure of having another ride round the famous Yorkshire show ground. I've had quite a few people message me saying they felt the same, i would be interested to see if anybody on the forum was also there, and felt like this?
All in all a good day was had on returning sunday, and the pony was home for a roll by 11.30!

All in all a good day was had on returning sunday, and the pony was home for a roll by 11.30! I was there yes as I was waiting to see my old pony in the WHP classes. I must say it was running very late and if this has been the case for the last few years I do think it should be addressed. We were in the first class at 0900 so no late running issues for us and I found all the stewards positively lovely. I think you will find that in the WHP class you are talking about that after the course walk nobody was willing to come forward and go first. They were shouting for someone to come in the ring and it got so bad they actually called that if someone didn't come in immediately then you would jump in catalogue order. I have to say that if I had been waiting for my class for so long I would have been sat in the entrance saying come on let's get on with it, the stewards were obviously aware of how late they were running and were trying to get things moving. Hats off to them in my opinion and next time it happens spend that 45 mins preening your pony so you are ready to jump as soon as the course is walked. Sorry, just my opinion. I'd have been home by mid afternoon if the ring had been running to plan but it was teatime in the end. So we were all affected but the stewards were just doing a d**n good job.

The fashion of nobody wanting to jump first in a working hunter class is probably because they feel the better jumping style marks will be awarded as the class progresses. This has happened to us when we have jumped a great clear in large class of open ponies but had to jump first due to catalogue order and we felt the mediocre style mark awarded was unsatisfactory.
Another instance, one year @ GYS nobody would come forward for the whp class so in the end the judge threatened to close the ring and move on to the next height class and that soon got riders into the ring!

I'm honestly surprised nobody else was hurt... allowing children to stick their faces against the bars of the arena while the m&m whp was going on. The ring was exceptionally tight and would only have taken one pony to spook at fence 2 & strike out... the crowd were far too close on the seats. Really needs a rethink. The warm up.option I agree was really not helpful... Someone found a broken pole for a ground line in the for the coloured later. Really felt that the lack of a good warm up affected a lot.
