Lost our very much loved, rescued bearded collie in March due to liver problems. Husband has now come to terms with the loss - very much his dog - so we are looking for another dog to love. Super home on a small holding, lots of walks as both of us are at home. MUST like cats as we have a lovely Burmese. Don't really want a pup, but certainly do not want someone else's problem dog. Anyone know of a dog deserving of a good home. Have been looking at the rescue kennels but most seem to be Staffies or something similar, and we don't really want a Staffie. P M me if you know of any dog looking for a forever home. We are Shropshire area.

Each breed does have a dedicated rescue service, details available from the Kennel Club website, if you wanted another beardie, or any other particular breed.

Had a look thanks for replying I do appreciate you trying to help us and the dogs. Fraid we also do not really want a greyhound, I know they can be lovely dogs but we like something with a bit more hair. Previously (over many, many years I must stress), had a rescue Italian Spinone, a mini Schnauzer, a border collie and a rough collie as well as our beloved Beardie, so we do like a type. I know it is a bit elitist, but we do like hairy dogs. Am currently scouting the rescue sites, and am willing to go for a different breed, but am astounded at how many Staffie type dogs there are for rehoming. Society needs to take some responsibility for this excess breeding. Will carry on looking.

I understand what you mean re Staffies but really it is the bad owners not the breed, especially here in London and South East nearly all are staffies or staffie crosses. My son who was totally non-doggy and alergic to them although he lived with ours when he lived at home took on a rescue staffie last year and I was really sceptical. He actually got her from a small rescue centre in East London and she was a stray as opposed to rescue and is the sweetest dog ever. He is totally besotted with her, she goes to work with him every day, is a real city dog used to the tube and buses! I think he has been very lucky in finding such a lovely little dog who has no real issues and is very good with people and other dogs, I guess she is also lucky to find him and his partner as they both adore her. Too many people buy Staffies for the wrong reasons and as you have said overbreed for the wrong reasons. We have German Wirehaired Pointers and took in a rescue bit*h a couple of years ago, she is a sweet dog but our old boy just does not like other dogs including bit*hes! so it has been a bit of a nightmare and she definately has issues I don't think she was badly treated although she was so skinny when she came to us. The biggest issue with her is that I believe she was kept in a dog cage for most of her first year and just let out on the beach to excercise as her owners couldn't cope with her. These dogs are working dogs and need lots of excercise and training so this poor start means her back legs still are not right, she was very hunched in her back and she seems to have no capacity to remember things. She is really sweet but does have 'special' needs and will never be a true gun dog. Such a shame that people just do not think about what they really are getting in to when they choose a breed. Hope you find the right dog for you, and it sounds like they will also be lucky to find you.

Have a look at the oldies club. They list older dogs looking for new homes. Often they are in rescue due to elderly owners passing away so are absolutely problem free, just need love and have lots of love to give.

Sent from my SM-A300FU using proboards Thanks, this is exactly what we had in mind. An older dog would suit us brilliantly, and would be an ideal solution for an older person looking to rehome as they might be no longer be able to look after one - or of course if the owner had passed away. Will look into this on google. Many thanks.
