yes, I thought it 'felt' different. But I am open minded! Will be interesting to see. The lots look a bit more mixed up than usual and that makes it hard for sellers. So, if for example you are looking for a Sec A foal, its good if they are all near each other so you can go and look, then sit down to watch/bid. I have a feeling some people might be up and down like yo-yos!

Still better than the Cob Sales though where they're all mixed up - or were when I last went.

Well I am always up and down like a Jojo no matter what hehe. I always try to be there 2h ahead so in order to go through viewing as many beforehand as possible and then be there for the auction once it starts but you obviously miss the ones who arrive late and some sellers have this unfortunate ability to hide out with their lots *lol* And then there always is your odd one where you wish you had sat on it beforehand. But this year I'm going with mixed feelings for the first time. It's the first year where my catalog has been here for a day and is not full of marks left right and centre. From a Facebook point of view it appears as if there are active efforts being made by breeders to promote the smaller sales such as Beeston Castle this weekend or the Llanybydder sale. It will be interesting to see whether the official sales will keep up their standing with these entry and parking fees in place when the sales used to be a place to not only buy and sell but also to go and see what's on the menu, meet up with old friends and have a good chat about the ponies. I know more than one friend of mine who went with no perspectives to buy yet ended up buying one or even more ponies on the spell of the moment. If those people are kept away by substantial entry fees I don't think this will work in anybody's favor in the long run.

If you go to Llanybydder you take your life in your hands! It is one of the most dangerous sales I have been too. Carmarthen Mart has much better facilities and if you are looking for somewhere to sell I would advise to go there.

Llanybydder market is getting some quality ponies through and making more than they would at fayre oaks in some cases, and genuine buyers from Holland were present at August sale, and entry fee was only £3, no buyers premium unless you count the guineas as buyers premium, £2 for a catalogue, no parking fee. So no wonder some sellers are selling elsewhere. If hay on wye at hereford sale is September next year, sounds like entries for fayre oaks will suffer and sellers will take to hay on wye as earlier, perhaps in the long term fayre oaks may return to Hereford.

I can see their point. With F.O. et.al. being the official WPCS sales one can only hope they will maintain their status. Maybe this drastic increase in fees is not pointing in the right direction, This year the official sales seem to be missing a few regulars already in their vendor list at least I see names popping up on the Beeston Castle, Llanybydder market and other sales I previously did not note going there. Either way I look forward to F.O. and the Cobsale and am hoping for the best. If anybody from up here is interested in having a chat feel free to make yourself known. I'll probably be the blonde little lady running around like crazy again wearing a germanhorseconnection-vest of some sort and taking lots of notes, photos and videos.

Just gone through the catalog again. Have I gone bonkers or does anybody else count 380 lots only? With the numbers missing and the last lot being 542 I get to only 380. No wonder it felt so small this time. The bigger types are nice to read through but the catalog appears unbelievably small this year. I know previous catalogs were missing the odd lot# here and there possibly for technical reasons or to leave a reserve for potential late entries but between the Saturdays last afternoon lot and the high flyer there is a gap of 86 numbers missing. No bueno

Wow Kareen I hadn’t noticed (but then I’ve not got past Saturday yet!!! )
May be a marketing ploy to keep us thinking there are still lots of entries.
Just goes to show the change has affected it already!!

I assume the decline would be the result of a variety of factors. Numbers have gone down before the change already due to an apparent shortening of breedings but with all the pressure Brightwells seem to get relating to the change of dates I would guess it has had some impact as well. With 380 entries it is still big, just not half as big as it was in the past and I guess we all hope that numbers will go up again soon.

The days of 700 ponies are long gone. Might make sunday an earlier finish though which helps with a very long drive home!!!

Fayre oaks has always been in September, and foals were weaned, remember at hereford loads of foals were weaned and looked well, moving the date has affected foal show entries, clashing with heritage championship , I think the dwindling numbers is due to several factors including less breeding and also the entry fees for fayre oaks for foals, breeders are selling at other sales especially when other sale entries range from £5 per pony (£3) for welsh a foals at one sale. Ridden ponies should not need to be clipped, but it is becoming difficult to work them without them sweating up, so obviously clipping is having to be an option and buyers are not necessarily going to want a clipped pony that they have to rug when they take pony home from sale. For us, and I know this doesn't affect many people, but 2 major breed sales within 5 days , instead of one 3 weeks before the other one, has now become a logistical nightmare as ponies going to both sales have had to be in. Couldn't agree more! Felt completely wrong not being at Fayre Oaks last weekend, mum and I both said it was classic FO weather. There's no doubt the trade for potential ridden ponies will suffer due to the clash with Heritage champs, who would pass up on 4 Olympia qualifying opportunities and an RIHS qualifying opportunity for next year.I also think the High Flyers will suffer due to being after HOYS now instead of before, there's always been at least 1 entry qualified and sold with the ride and they always attracted plenty of hype and sold for good money. I agree with your point regarding coats, most still had a decent summer coat on the usual date but by the date this year most will be semi fluffy if not a full coat. There's always been plenty of foals at Fayre Oaks of all sections and I can't recall ever seeing any that I thought looked poor or too young and as someone said in a previous reply to this comment, not everyone wants to buy a foal. I'll go with an open mind this year but unless I'm definitely looking to buy in the future it could well be our last.

I remember years ago at the may sale we couldn't be bothered waiting another 60 lots for a pony and went only to find after that 30 lots were missing and the pony we wanted went for peanuts I was gutted, just had a look now and as well as lots missing in mass there are 3-5 lots missing after several sections throughout, such a shame general vibe is it should not have moved I've not heard anyone say it's better for them, people definite going elsewhere, I'm staying away from clwyd tomoureslly think th quality has improved, bought my lovely filly there last may and we medalled this year, still want to go FO though x

Cobsale catalog looks even more shrunk than the F.O. Looking forward to the sales regardless. Have a good trip everybody and happy sales/purchases
