My horsebox insurance is up for renewal and was wondering which way to go. Have been with Anthony Evans inc breakdown but have never had to actually use them, thankfully, but am slightly concerned about the article in h&h last year stating that A Evans breakdown cover was not quite what it states and that people had been left for long periods of time on motorway/roads with horses on board. I realise that anything can and does happen sometimes but was wondering if taking out separate breakdown is the answer. Has anybody any advice and experience and who do you use?

I use a separate breakdown from PRP through OHTO. Not the cheapest but by far the best as far as I’m concerned. I’ve used NFU breakdownnand in all fairness they eventually arrived and got me going but I’d no livestock on board thankfully. The guy from OHTO will probably come on and give you some advice.

I have used NFU breakdown cover and had a dreadful experience at the Royal Welsh show a few years ago. We had a puncture on the way in, rang the helpline but took hours before someone came out. I was so frustrated with them, I actually went down to the NFU stand at the show and made a scene in front of all their guests!! I then renewed my Horsebox insurance and breakdown cover with Anthony Evans and cannot fault them. Much cheaper than NFU, only called them out once when they were very prompt coming out and very helpful on the phone. Would recommend them.

I used to own the most absolute WRECK of a horsebox (currently holding the number one spot on Google images when you put in 'rusty horsebox' lol) the new one isn't much better I have to say!
I probably used the Anthony Evans breakdown service a dozen times or more over a few years (far long after the average provider would have waved me off as a profitable customer) and absolutely cannot fault their service
All but once they got the box going again quickly, the time they didn't the road was too busy so they towed us to somewhere safer where they got the box going again
The telephone contact and the professionalism of the callout guys were all good
The thing that a lot of people don't like is that sometimes they will tow with horses on board but these last couple of years they have given me various price options for breakdown cover so I am guessing they have addressed that in some of their offered plans

Another vote here for Anthony D Evans. I've had their breakdown cover for over 5 years. This year is the first time I've had to use them and can honestly say they were great.

County Insurance have been great for us, they got us going really quickly when we had a problem on the way to a show and we didn't miss our class. Helpful on the phone and good value.

Another vote for Anthony Evans. Used them a couple of times when we have been unlucky to have blow outs and they were perfect
