So sorry to hear about your pony ,unfortunately there are some very ruthless ,horrible ,insensitive people around, who do not care about other peoples horses, they shouldn't be aloud to own horses, livery yards are full of them.i hope your pony recovers soon, best wishes.😊

I have had 2 spiteful ponies, neither I bred. I think these 2 had been bullied by their peers before they came to me and then turned on others to get themselves in the pecking order. I saw both attack when they perceived a weakness, both were merciless. The reason I am telling you this is it would seem to me that the pony turned out with yours would appear to be one of these and not suitable to be with a convalescing pony.
If you have witnesses to what happened then I would be having a quiet word with the owner. Depending on the terms of your contract and who decided that these 2 could be out together I would also be having a word with the YO, at the end of the day. especially if you are on full livery, that person is responsible for your pony's welfare. Speak to your insurance providers. You could if pushed go to the small claims court for damages.
I hope your pony makes a full and speedy recovery.

poor boy. I had a mare who got caught up in a fence with a similar injury, except that the stiches burst. If this happens keep lots of pressure on it. It is a very difficult area to bandage however I kept everything in place with the use of a ladies corset held together with Velcro going through metal loops and wide thick elastic with clips going to metal rings I had sewn onto the corset that went over the neck. A bit heath robinson but it worked. I got the corset from a charity shop, the whole device was less than a tenner.
Write everything down. Get the witness to write a statement, get it sworn by a solicitor. ( You pay to swear! ) Advise the person who's pony kicked yours that you will be making a claim against her or him, they should be insured. Include all costs, including his keep until well and for devaluation. Put it in writing. Her/ his insurer's may want to see the pony. Do you have a receipt for what you paid for this pony? If so include a copy.

Poor pony. So sorry its come to this. Don't forget to take lots of photographs to support your case, they may become necessary, and do remember to be meticulous with dates. Hoping for a good recovery, and a realistic settlement.

How did your pony come to be in the same paddock as this pony?
If it's known as being a kicker and you asked for yours to be in with it then any settlement may be reduced as you took the risk.
If the yard owner knew the culprit was a kicker and requested you to put yours in with it then they have been negligent.
Unfortunately horses are unpredictable; if the owner of said horse did not act negligently then you can claim for the cost of vets bills and any out of pocket expenses. If they acted negligently (for example put their horse in with your pony without your knowledge/permission) then further compensation may be awarded.

My pony was in there for resting as as a kick day before. This horse is stable next to him and was put in to keep him company so my pony didn't stress but he's turned on him an batterd him If I'd of known this were a kicker not a chance would it of gone in we him. My pony not been there long. Owner is just a farmer it's just a small diy. It's after I found out but damage is done now. He's ruined. We have witnesses who saw this attack him. And rushed to get help. What upsets me is people will never understand till it there horse. An when doesn't care makes it even worse. This pony wasn't out we loads on in a resting paddock. To where never thought this would happen. This show pony is 16 a and as never ever had any up we him kick nothing. He not a bad bone in is body. My pony Isi. A right state. Not just a kick a brutal evil attack. I did say will he be ok with him she said he be fine.

Ouch. That looks awful. I feel for you. I’d be devastated if it were my SP. I have mine on DIY but pay extra for a separate paddock as I can’t afford them to get kicked. Plus the rest on the yard are horses and the majority shod.
Hope it’s mostly superficial and he goes on to make a speedy recovery xx

If you turn any horse out in a paddock there is a risk, it depends if its a known risk or not. I turned out my pony with my old pony mare and he cornered her and kicked the s*** out of her. It was unprovoked but he was showing her who was boss, fortunately she wasn't hurt, it was no ones fault and they went on to live together quite happily. I do not know what you expect the owner to do if its an accident it just that. If they are insured and they accept liability it will void their insurance. If you are insured your insurance should try and claim against theirs, a bit like cars. For what its worth I would never turn out an injured animal with something it did not know already and were fairly matched. If its injured its not going to be able to move as quickly if threatened. If I buy a new animal it turned out with an older pony that can avoid kicks and its self is not aggressive/dominant. This is all part of horsemanship and perhaps who ever decided they would be OK together didn't realise this. Its not the ponys fault.

Poor pony and poor you. What type of fencing is there round your paddock ? That looks like a very strange injury from kicking and looks more like he was caught in fencing. There are lots of smaller wounds around it to which support have him being caught in something. How well do you know the 'witnesses' I'm just wondering if you are getting the full story !the skin has clearly been caught and torn and I don't see how a kick could do that. I really hope pony recovers well and as quickly as possible. They always suprise me how well they can heal

Those are some really nasty injuries, your poor pony and poor you/daughter.
I have to say though, if you turn horses out together you have to accept that this is a risk. It has happened to me at my old yard and it never even crossed my mind to claim any money from the owner, I just accepted (through gritted teeth) that horses will be horses. I have moved yards now to where I can keep only mine turned out together because I was sick of injuries in shared turnout. One of mine is an ass with new ponies and I would never have her in with anything else now apart from my own as she can be vile. If the owner knew that her horse could be this way inclined then she should have said no to turning out with yours, its naughty of her if she had an idea that hers wasnt kind to others. I would never agree to my mare being turned out with anyone else, for fear of what has happened to your poor pony. Horrible situation all round. I hope they heal well and you arent left with much scaring, you might be surprised.

I'm sorry but if my pony did that to another I would show remorse and offer to help physically but I would not be paying any bills. Horses are horses and if you choose to turn your pony out with another pony then this type of thing happens. In fact they don't even have to be out with another pony to damage themselves. I've had a lot of ponies on all types of livery yard and if my pony got kicked there is no way I would ever try to claim from the owner.
