at the Ponies UK winter champs this year I entered the Pollyanna Homeproduced ridden SP/SHP and came 2nd which I was really pleased with as my 14hander doesnt normally get placed that high, when the judge gave me my rosette her comment to me was "lovely pony and you did the best show, but this class is for show ponies and yours is a hunter pony" clearly the judge hadnt looked properly at what class they were judging hehe and a couple of years ago I entered an Open/Restricted SHP at solihull and it was a large large with a number of previous HOYS/RI qualified ponies. the top 4 were flashy show ponyish with very little bone (all restricteds) and the judge told us down the bottom end of the line up (which consisted of the HOYS/RI ponies and myself) that our ponies were too hunter type? but one of the best was in and inhand welsh a's and b's class at a county show i had a section b and there was only one other section b we were both placed last 2 and the judges comment was "do you do ridden classes with this pony" I replied "yes" Judge "I thought so as wasnt fat like the other ponies"

Well at a local show this weekend my daughter was placed second too a pony that spent most of its time on its two back legs. The judge in a NOVICe horse class picked up our horses legs (with my child still on board worried sick that the pony was going to squash the judge) and then despite our pony going foot perfect (only one on correct leg on both reins) and not running off, rearing or bucking (some of which you somtimes do see in a novice class) was told that the reason she was second was because our pony was not shod!
We only had the pony a week and this was the 1st time my daughter had sat on him so we were more than pleased with second and our farrier could not come any sooner than yesterday to sort out his feet!!
I always try to support the local shows but when they have people judging who could have easily injured themselves or my child/pony think I may give them a wide birth in future!

I was told this season after being pulled 1st and dropped to last it was because i "looked like i was having a lovely time and praised my pony far too much" after the trot out? ?? I was having a lovely time, isn't that what it's all about? and as for praising my pony, she trotted out beautifully where as normally she sticks the brakes on!!!!!

i was on my old pony at a local show in the most suitable childs pony. my pony had a near perfect show, apart from taking a bit longer than she usually did to pick up canter(there was a ditch along the back of the ring 8 inches deep and about 2ft wide, so she didn't want to canter into it) and had bee really well behaved especially compared to some of them. i ended up 2nd, the pony that won had come in late so it missed the go round, then went on to do several fairly big bucks in its show. it then tried to take off in the lap of honour!!

Our friends got told her shetland was too fat, the judge then asked the ponies aged, she replied 2. Oh, she needs to gain some condition then replied the judge ?!?!

oh woops forgot to put the comment! the judge said to me when she gave me my rosette "i didn't like your ponies browband, i put the pony first because it had a plain browband"!!!!!! this was in a most suitable pony, fair enough in a turnout, i really wonder if some local judges actually know what class they're judging! btw, i only went to the show for a warm up for the p(uk) champs a week later.

Took my pony to a local show as a travel buddy so thought I would stick him in the hunter class as he was still plaited from the day before. We came 4th in hunter class any age any height. Judge Said " your pony is beautiful, best in the class and a true hunter pony but couldn't place you higher as he's not a horse"All I could do was smile and say thank you. Like others have said I don't think they read the schedule properly.

My newforest which is shown as a showhunter, was given a qualifier for a sec D class - apparently she was a brilliant stamp of a D! Was too shocked to give a reply.

Love these! Best one I can think of: Took pony to a local BSPS to do novice SHP, to be placed third out of nine. Told I would've been placed higher if the ponis' eyes were "More Sparkly". Rightio.

Loving the sparkly eyes one fab!! We took our mm lr pony to a small show and it said lead rein pony. We took our mm lr pony in. She won deservedly but the judge said to us what breed is your pony. Section a we said and she said "well you should plait her up." The class said lr pony; mm, shp, sp. "Yes" the judge said, " definatley plait this pony up for lr classes". we show her in mm classes we said we don't think she is a shp!!!! But she said if you show her whatever class you do you must plait her up!!! Ok then.............................. !!

I had a fantastic year with my little 2yo sec A. We had a 2nd last week at equifest in the A&B youngstock class and are leading all the points at our local riding club. I went to a show yesterday and was told she was "Bad Quality" & "Not good standard" yet i should "put her in foal..." Funny that her dad's in horse and hound every week and her half sister just missed out qualifying for hoys last week getting reserve Cuddy? yet another comment that makes me laugh myself to tears!

At staffs county my little brother did the lr mm class. The judge said: "I like my ponies to go with there head out". She told him too let go of his reins in line!! Keep them coming hehe emixx loving that one!

My daughter entered a handler class today, she was 3rd, the dotty old judge told the winner that they had won because they were wearing a waistcoat

Another dotty old dear comment yesterday in a handler class.
To the front row 'you would have won if you hadn't turned her the wrong way and got her to trot instead of cantering (4th place) and you would have been higher up if you hadnt turned the wrong (3rd place)'
'you would have been further up if you had turned the right way and got him out of walk' (6th place)
To my 6 year old who stood on the back row, had done a lovely walk away, turned the right way and trotted up to the judge and stopped her bang on the spot (from trot) the judge had told her to stop on 'thank you!!!!!!!'
was very cross lol! went from proud mummy to growling lioness in 0.2 seconds flat!
