How did every one get on? What did you all think about the judging? Are you going again next year? ? Had a great few day's away myself, good company, saw loads of people I haven't seen in a long time, nice weather - exept for Tuesday!!! Thought some of the judging a little strange.....but on the whole a great Championship show.

Good show though too much on Day 1 for the kids and ponies. Please can the NPS show team consider spreading classes more. The junior ring is great idea but to hold all the mini qualifiers and hoys classes on the same day makes parents feel suicidal. Members food tent could have a more kid friendy menu coz curry and chicken and leek casserole aren't the best choices for little ones. Pasta, chicken & chips, bangers and mash would go down better. Only bad thing was the guy thrashing his pony with a tiny kid on the far side of the exercise area before the Tiny tots Lead Rein. The one up the line who went in late.

For your information i'm that guy and i didn't go in late to that class atall you must have had some mud in your eyes!!! And as for thrashing my pony yes i did tell him off as he was being very cheeky outside and thats the reason i took him rite out of the way!! I don't thrash my horses but do belive manners are a must for childrens ponies!! I think i do a great job as it proved in that class as i was 2nd out of 27!! So go eat your sour grapes else where coward!!

The NPS show was fantastic! Thumbs up to those who worked so hard to make it work and as comfortable as possible for us after the AHS show and all the rain. NPS you pulled off a miracle. Re the "Tickle" post. We have to agree. We also witnessed the pony being hit several times. The dreadful thing was the guy did it whilst a small child was riding his pony and another little girl was riding past them. He had no consideration for either's safety. It made her pony leap forward and could have caused a very nasty accident. Hardly behaviour to brag about. At least we will be able to work out who it was.

Glad the leader came clean. There were three or four ponies around when it happened. I also saw a pony jump as it went past. The man with the lead rein hit his pony with force several times. Felt sorry for the tiny rider as it must've been frightening for them and it certainly didn't set a good example to others. Please save your temper for elsewhere and do your homework at home.

Any more foul and abusive posts will result in your IP being blocked. Aside from that, you seem to think it acceptable to hit a pony to correct it, whether in private or in public to me that is unacceptable and inexcusable. I do wonder what methods you use in private if you are quite happy to do this in public? Perhaps some proper schooling from an expert would be in order, then your pony might have all his manners in place before you next put a small child on him?

Totally agree that manners are a must for childrens ponies , but think its totally unacceptable to be sorting the pony out at a show when others are around and working in at the same time !!
Its also manners to think of others and not place them in a situation that could result in an accident

Looks like that subject has run its course. Well done to the nPS show committee for putting on a very good show and making sure the rings were rolled which was appreciated by handlers and ponies competing in the in hand rings.

I wasn't there but if a pony needs correcting when it is naughty surely it should be done there and then?? What else was he supposed to do?? Let the pony mis behave and end up with a child in hospital?? No childs pony is 100% safe, after all they are animals not machines. No point tellling the pony off an hour later

Probably not the pony's manners that were the problem ! I was at the NPS Champs as a steward and thought the atmosphere was great, people seemed remarkably cheerful, given the state of some of the parking. Some of the timetabling does need adjusting but I'm sure any constructive criticism will be taken on board and acted upon.

i think banning him is a bit far.... lol!
We all discipline our ponies in our own ways. I wasnt there - but for him to go into that class and come 2nd out of 27 (his words, not mine) the pony must have looked good, not looked sour, been a happy, tiny tots pony.
They all get out of hand sometimes, they are animals - and i am sure every single one of you have hit/disciplined your pony/ies in public before too.
Can you people just never go to ONE SHOW without having to moan, moan, moan!!!

Firstly if the pony needs sorting then fair enough, but it is not acceptable to do it where others are warming up and put them at risk of an accident due to a pony that already has misbehaved !!!! Also i do not see this is a critisism towards the show just how some people treat there ponies dont you ??

Agree it was a great show but there was soooo much for the children on the weds that clashed it would have been lovely to have had it spread out or even to have one ring soley for childrens classes all week maybe with individual sponsors or donated prizes i am sure this would be well supported. ;D ;D ;D Would also like to say what a pleasure it was to meet Peter Wilkinson in the flesh. what a charming ,kind and knowledgable gentleman he is

Good show but hate to say it folks there is nothing to encourage the plaited ponies to attend or stay apart from the HOYS classes.
It would be nice if our ponies Ridden Championships could take place during the evening performance on the first night and the in hand ponies have their shop window on Day 2.
At the moment it looks as if the NPS are not supporting the Riding Pony Stud Book ponies as they should. Please can the show committee re-address the balance.
How about two big National Supreme Ridden & In Hand Show/Hunter Pony Championships with a good money prize on Monday night to pull in entries and make the BSPS crowd take the NPS show seriously. The HOYS & RIHS prize money is laughable so why not take the opportunity to run a prestigious Riding Pony competition?

I am sure if the gentleman thrashed the pony quoted from this thread. Do you think he would have continued to put in a good performance to come up to second in the class!! I am sure the pony would have pulled away from the handler and been wary if he had been so called 'thrashed'.
This is probably a vicious character assassination on a decent chap.

In reply to dobby, I don't know who the person in question is, so couldn't tell you what sort of chap he is. However, at least two different people witnessed him strike the pony repeatedly, whilst a small child was riding. A national championship show is not the place to teach a pony his manners, and personally I would disagree with the method used.
I also think that reply no. 8 doesn't seem to be the response of 'a decent chap', and is by far the most vicious comment on the thread. IMO.

i know this chap ,and i must say i would be more than happy for him to lead my ponies he always turns his ponies out beautifully and they always seem to be happy walking along side of him,not like a pony who is scared of getting a beating!!!

I do not know the person in question either, also wasnt at the show but two people stated the pony was thrashed, therefore someone isnt telling the complete story ? I commented as i found his reply totally uncalled for, we all have a personal opinion but language like that is totally unacceptable on an open forum

The sad thing about this man is that he was so engrossed with "sorting out" his pony that he failed to notice another little jockey riding by. At no time on this thread has he apologised for that or to the little child riding his pony. If I was their mother I would have serious doubts about entrusting offspring to someone like this. The only thing he appears to care about is the colour of his rosette.
