I'd wait until she has the second to decide which to sell, you'd be gutted if the first was a star and you'd already sold it, then the second not as good!
I've had a Tiger Lily already, now sold. Sired by Tiger Harry.

Oh good idea - I will tell hubby and if he gets cross - I will tell him to speak to you LOL
We are collecting horses/ponies like stamps at the moment - dont have much land and hubby's blood pressure is going through the roof!

Yes - we are doing the same. Had our first foal this year - love it to bits and our mare has been AI'd in June - so hopefully if everything goes ok with next foalie decide which (if any) we want to sell. I personally would love to keep the first one but we will have to see.

Oh I'm so sorry to hear that Brindle how sad and that's the one thing I am DREADING more then most. I'd have to cope with a grieving mare it must be awful. I've bred the foal as I'm keeping it for my future riding horse and my mare is my baby - we've come a LONG way together and have an indredible bond. Thanks for that tip Sarahp - I'll bare that in mind 'just incase' and yes she will be in a stable to foal. She's due April 10th Lovepink and we've got 22 weeks to go! SOOO excitied! I used Archie - www.avantistud.com Rita and Archie are AMAZING - being a first time breeder, she's made the whole thing simple for me is nearby if I need help and I can ask as many 'stupid' questions as I like

It is very hard when you lose a foal- I have been breeding for 32yrs and have only lost 5- so in the grand scheme of things- I don't suppose soo bad! but everyone is remembered and you always blame yourself- what if?! Lovepink- It must be horrendous to give birth to a dead baby yourself doesn't bear thinking about. Don't think anyone would ever get over that. I always leave the mare with the body- they do cover them up, if in a stable; out in the field they just wander off and leave them- a grieving mare is a very sad sight. Good luck with all your babies I have found so long as the mare is getting all the required minerals and vits and are fit not fat- they usually foal with no problem.

hi ref feeding the brood mare , we find that Dodson and Horrelle Sure Grow gives the mares all they seem to need and their milk is so much better and the foals do so much better too from the high quality of their milk, and if you feed your mare too much she will let you know by producing an adeama from just infront of the bag to as far up as between her front legs , dont panic ! knock your feed back and monitor the adeama , if in any doubt give the vet a shout !!!!! good luck
