I would definately. I have given you a karma for your hard work and having to put up with thoughtless individuals!

It is awful having to work so many nights over Christmas and new Year. When I worked shifts we used to split it so everyone had something off and it was fair, Dont give in and enjoy your Christmas night off !!

my mum is just like you, she will work all over christmas and new year, and never gets thought any better of, she just gets moaned at by her boss when she can't do a shift, she is an absolute star and so are you, without my mum helping out we couldn't afford our ponies, and ash wouldn't be able to do what she loves, i love my mum loads for what she does for us, and i'm sure your family think the world of you for what you do, you both are fab, karma on the way (can't give my mum a karma as she isn't a member on here, but i have packed her christmas bag full of goodies, i love her loads )

I would also stick to my guns if l am expected to work so many days over the Christmas period. Like most have said we have all been there and l within my job still am but it is expected that l work either Christmas or New year. Having worked every Christmas since 1975 and most New Year l thought l am this year going to have one of those periods off. So l am working Christmas Eve ..Off Christmas Day and Boxing Day and amazingly l am Off New Years Eve but working New Years Day..So l think l have got a good deal this year.
Generally in my career you are either expected to work Christmas period or the New Year period weather you have children or not !!

Before I retired I was the Senior Nurse of a in patient unit for people with a Learning Disability as management I was not meant to work nights [ never got paid for it[ but I usually did nights christmas eve and new years eve to give the staff the night off. Ask the boss why they are not volunteering to work the shift?

My OH is having Christmas Day off this year. In his current job, that's the only bank holiday the company observes. All other days are normal working days, and if they fall on your rostered days you work them, if they don't then you're lucky. As his rostered days off are Sunday and Tuesday, he will only get Christmas Day. He works 2am til about 10am, so goes to bed very early evening. Oh and he doesn't get extra pay for working Boxing Day, New Year etc as they're just normal working days.
However we're just grateful he has a job, after being made redundant from his previous job at the start of the year and being unemployed for several months. Our daughter and I will just have to get by without seeing much of him - at least he'll be able to share her excitement on Christmas Day.

Ask the boss why they are not volunteering to work the shift? Think that why he was so desperate as he'd have to do it! We had a pay cut not long ago but atleast I've got a job
