Sometimes, think to my self, why bother trying to sell ponies. We have had our pony for sale for 3 three months and have had at least 15 people ring up and say that they would like to see her and would ring us when they had the time and nothing! We have reduced her so much, she is a fab pony but no body is buying at the moment! But we did have some look, we have some body who's hired the arena so they will definitely be coming to see her.

been reading all this with interest ... and can see both sides as recently sold our first ridden - we were lucky and the lady came on sat tried him came back sun , hacked him and bought him transaction carried out within a week and brill home. On the other hand as a buyer now i feel i need to find out as much as possible about a pony before viewing especially if the trip to view is a long one. I can say that so far we have been lucky with the ponies we have seen in that they have been pretty much as described but just not always for us. I do always make appts convenient to the seller, and keep in touch with my time of arrival etc. I let the buyer know my budget if advertised at slightly more so as not to waste their time with a slightly lower offer.
I do however, take offence at the suggestion that photos need not be seen or as i saw recently in an ad " no timewasters tyre kickers and how much is it?" how the hell can you view a pony without knowing the price ? to suggest that we are all so cashed up that we should not even need to enquire about the money side is a farce I think there is right and wrong on both sides of this argument but would reiterate that on the whole in our search for a pony I have found sellers to be decent , honest with quality ponies - if they are not for us i would not expect them to take offence !

A few years go we were looking for a top class show horse and looked at loads which weren't as advertised. Saw an advert for one which looked quite promising but had no price on. I emailed seller in the first instance to ask the price and was told if I have to ask I can't afford it?? I couldn't believe the arrogance of this person, I had a substantial budget as was looking for top quality and prepared to pay for it, but with that reponse I wouldn't give them the time of day never mind my hard earned cash. I still can't get over that reply and it's 3 yrs ago!

Not all buyers are time wasters. I bought a welsh sec a of a lady on saddlesoap unseen. I saw the pony,, pm ,d her, sent a deposit straight away and paid her £100 each month until the mares foal was weaned of and i could collect her.We kept in touch every week and i still keep in touch with her now.

I had a 13.3 rising 5 show hunter for sale last year, she was VERY forward going and only recently broken but had massive dressage potential, I am in west yorks and had a call from a lady from Warwickshire who asked loads of questions and was desperate to view her (she even took out a bank loan to pay for her to bridge the time before she sold hers!) She was only 5ft but had a 15.2 so I said atre you sure Beauty will be big enough and she said yes, any way she came and brought two friends with her, as soon as she saw her I knew she thought she was too small, she then proceeded to ride her and be filmed for half an hour!! (expecting her to canter 10 metre circles, do lateral work and jump full grids!) her 5'9 male friend then got on her and rode her in spurs! Beauty was nearly falling over so I asked him to take the spurs off and he said 'they aren't hurting her I just want to make sure she isn't going to do anything when pt under pressure, as they have to be well behaved for Dressage!' (like I was a complete numpty!) She then took her out for a hack! In the end she said she really liked her and they would discuss it on the way home, she then rang 2 hours later and said sorry but she's too small! Surely that was obvious 5 minutes in to trying her??
I have however felt it from the other side, when I view I have to take my toddler and my time is limited I cant tell you how many people try and tell you their horse is perfect when its demented! I went to see one which actually said no lumps or bumps and when I turned up was covered in sarcoids! Another which was advertised as a novice ride that bronked all over the school with its owner, she said "he's allowed to mess about as long as he's going forward!" These people only care about the money and moving the horse on, they have no regard for the horse or the potential buyers!
But to end on a good note we have sold all my sisters old ponies down south unseen without a hitch and they are all still enjoying the same homes, there are some genuine people out there after all!
And Melons friend bought my fell a couple of years ago and I couldn't have asked for a better sale, We were both completley honest and Megan is enjoying her new home very much and I am still in touch with her new owner, I love hearing about all their achievements, I just dont understand why people lie when they are selling, they obviously dont care about the horses much!

I am so sick of day trippers i have took my pony off sale, 1. why dont they read the advert.2 ask studip questions like will you take less even before seeing the pony. 3 waste an hour of your time with the kid ripping its mouth who evidently has not got a ride in her. 4 when you ask if they can ride well turn up and ride like a bag of poo pardon the expression. 5 turn up in all the designer gear and look like they have just walked out of derby house.6 say they will come back with there instuctor. 7 i have not sold my pony yet will you keep it .8 will you loan it ........ omg i am sick of them all i would never go to see anything unless i was intrested and had the money in my pocket or nearly at least , but what do you do vet them over the phone first

I think that "viewing" is a national pastime ! They seem to decide to visit an area with a pony/horse viewing thrown in,very similar to people that view houses they cannot afford or are too big too small?I think it just gives them a day out and something to chat to their friends about.

Well I really hope you find one soon Melons! Although Megan is an absolute star, im sure evryone who knows her understands she was at the back of the que when they were handing out impulsion - but if thats all then she's doing pretty well!We have a 13.2 fell for my sister (who is only 4ft 8) its really nerve wracking seeing her going round with alll the large breeds but when she does win it makes it all the more worth while!
