The old saying was that "a good horse is never a bad colour"
Before positively stating that 'such and such a person' "positively hates' - (a certain colour), perhaps also look into other aspects of the animal. Might be some other defining point which the judge found and liked/didn't like................... ??

would say that I have been champion under Jacky Webb and Gill wright with both Grey and Dark Bays. I would say it would be more about the comformation with these than the Colour.

Thanks i did wonder if the person who said to advoid mrs webb had a bad example!!! Thank you for replies. If it's any help - we have shown lots under Jackie Webb as she really likes chestnut shetlands - BUT we have stood reserve several times to a chestnut New Forest. ALSO Gill Wright loves chestnuts but HATES greys and coloureds - We went to Surrey County a few years back with 3 chestnut shetlands; we got 3rd, 5th and 7th, and the great Lady Eleanor was in 11th place!!! and a beautiful piebald was below that!!! Please don't get me wrong - I am not saying that this the case every time- just what I have experienced in pure shetland classes. I am quite sure that things would be different in mixed breed classes - although I have won plenty of those with a chestnut shetland as well. I am not criticising Ms G Wright - I have plenty of respect for her judging, and I have booked her often for my own shows. Who would have thought that making such a simple observation, based on past experiences, would open such a can of worms? ?

Ann B-W, Sandy Anderson - IMHO, both would seek a really typy, 'old'fashioned' stamp of pony.

is it true that NPS judges have been told to put down geldings in breed classes as they cannot "breed"? any info would be greatly appreciated! I hope not!!!! I do quite of inhand with my gelding and he does quite well. A good pony is a good pony regardless of its height colour, age, or sex. I do hate it went a judge tells me they love my pony, good example of the breed etc, but he has age againist him......

As usual, it is no-doubt one of those 'heard-it-on-the -proverbial-grapevine stories.
Take with a pinch of salt. or, why are Geldings allowed in the class in the first place??
It is good to cut a colt.

Im totaly new to m@ms so i dont know any judges! We always do well under Jackie Webb with our highland pony (we are not 'a face' and she does not know us at all!) HOWEVER, at Equifest 2008, she had the beautiful fell mare Darrenvale Delilah first/second in all her classes and rightly so
