The very naughty (but nice) Bertie Bassett, has always been a prolific murderer of wild life However, I think I have reached my tolerence overload level ! Last night - he bought in a live shrieking baby rabbit (he goes down the burrows and steals them). He was flinging it up and down the stairs. I got up and put the poor mite outside. At which point the dogs are going potty - so had to let them out too! Went back to bed - snuggled down - dogs are barking madly....... Got back up, got dogs back in - snuggled back down........... Drifting back off to sleep - Bertie arrives back up stairs with another baby bunny - throwing it round the upstairs bedrooms! I chased him downstairs and cleared up blood from the walls - YUK. Went downstairs and he has eaten most of it............ I had been up and down to bed for best part of 3 hours and witness gory murder - which is not good for my delicate/gentle disposition! I now think Berties night-time freedom needs to be SQUASHED and cat flap firmly shut at night. What do you all think

Naughty Bertie! I would think very carefully before locking the cat flap, as I'm firmly convinced he will punish you for such an outrage. The nature of the punishment may well be more messy than the current carnage.

ooh dear - hadnt thought of that! He will probably murder poor miss Tiggy Winkle (nervous Bengal) instead! What about locking him in a big dog cage overnight! JOKE - but you would if he was a dog wouldnt you! I cant be up all hours everynight though? ?

poor lovepink.. have a murderous Karma..
mine also do that, they can somehow get onto the conservatory roof and into my bedroom with their live conquests in the middle of the night..
my poor setter Bently has to put up with all of this as I have him upstairs to guard me in case some rich handsome man should try and get me in the night :-)
either lock them in or lock them out and have a peaceful nights sleep.. or feed him so much he wont be hungy to go hunting :-)

Cant lock him in, as he would batter the Bengal!
Cant lock him out, cos he gets on the coservatory roof and shouts his head off outside my bedroom window!
Cant feed him any more, as the biscuit bowl is always full, he has 3 wet meals a day - and veteran puss cat Mr Pickle is the size of a house! Woops!
He has us all over a barrell !

Poor little "Bertie Bum Face" (as he is affectionately know for no particular reason)............
He hasnt bought anything in for 2 nights, as he knows he has overstepped the mark! Wont last though, so am expecting a special delivery tonight! Have decided to shut him out for the night - everytime he brings something in!

Can you alter your cat flap so that he can get out, but not back in again? I used to come home from work to see feathers and gore around the cat flap, and my heart would sink because I knew madam had bought something in to dismember on the carpet in the warm!

that sounds a plan MM.. or could he use the cat flap and only get to a restricted area and put your other kitty's elsewhere.
I try and keep mine in all night in the winter as I hate them being out in the cold and wet.. they are quite happy and snuggle upwith the setters... when I come down at 5.30 am, I then let them out and then they are only too happy to come back in for breakfast...
p.s
I am not really harsh

Do you know, since that night he has gone very quiet on the murdering of bunnies front. He knew he had overstepped the mark, as on my final journey back to bed - freezing cold in just my nighty, he decided to "play" lets kill mummy's leg!
I can tell you - that by that time, I had very little humour left, for several sets of cat claws sticking into my skin! Bertie unfortunately found himself being "hoofed" off into the air, with me yelling "Dont you Dare"!!!!!!!!!!
Little Darlin has been sweet and innocent ever since........it wont last. but I am savouring moment! xx

Our night time sleep was disturbed by a soaking wet kitten jumpimg on the bed. I got up and retraced the little wet pawprints, and to my horror they led straight to the loo!!! and yes the chain was not flushed. So theres me, with a pee soaked, shivvvvering baby, with the OH saying "KEEP IT AWAY FROM ME" and just as I thought that it was going to be a very long night of bathing, my JRT steps in and takes over, and cleans her from head to toe. They then snuggle down all night together. I really do love my dog! p.s. sorry that has nothing to do with rabbits but had to get it of my chest

Poor baby - drowning in piddle! What a lovely doggy you have to wash her.
My lovely old collie, who grew up with the cats, used to wash Mr Pickles botty for him, if necessary and kept his ears spotless! Bless Freckles RIP
