The Boothsdale Foalcam is now back on line for 2010 Please note that you do need windows media player to view it and it will take a minute or so before you get a picture. To view please click - www.boothsdale.org.uk/foalcam1.htmmany thanks to my horse cam for providing the live streaming www.myhorsecam.com/default.aspx Currently it's on Dorlen who isn't due until 28th March but has a nasty habit of foaling about 3 weeks early. She's well bagged up but no wax as yet.

Don't worry - she's in the field in the day so plenty of time to get things done! ..... You just get to share the lack of sleep!!

She was fairly restless yesterday evening and I did wonder if she was going to go ... but then she went to sleep!
Bags just about ready to burst but as of this morning still no wax (and she usually does wax first). Will let you know when she does.

That's great boothsdale and it's a really good picture.
Excuse me for being thick, but do you have to buy a special camera etc. We've got a camera but it has a wire connection to the TV as the stable is quite a way from the house and has a lot of buildings in between, so a wireless system wasn't any good 2 yrs ago.

We're on wired cameras as our house is an old stone barn and so struggled to pick up a signal from the wirless ones we had when we moved here. The wire from the cameras comes into the house, goes through a splitter and then into both the laptop and the tv. There is a "how to guide" on my website but it needs updating...
Dorlens udder actually seems to be going down at the moment but Sasha (maiden) who was lagging behind is catching up so the camera is likely to flick between them - Dorlen is grey and Sasha is very dark chestnut so please don't be alarmed if the pony suddenly changes colour!

Finding this thread interesting - i just set up a wireless camera for my mare (first time i've used a camera - love not having to go out and check). Would love to be able to put mine onto computer but only have the tv cable.
It has been interesting watching the link and watching my own mare and seeing the difference in behaviour. Like how they stand, how much they eat/drink/crap etc. My mare is due 1st April so a bit to go but she has bagged up and was very restless last night. Last time she foaled with no warning so not sure what to expect this time.
Fingers crossed for healthy happy foalies all round.

First year we had ours (c/o Focus) I found it so good not having to keep going out with a torch and actually upsetting the other ponies. Last year if it wasn't for the camera we wouldn't have had a live foal. Kiz hadn't bagged up and it was only me watching her on tv that realised things were not as they should be. It was her first foal and Jenny came 1week under the 11 months. OH had to foal her as vet was 20 mins away.
I'm rather anxious this time and if Kiz goes the same length of time as her 1st foaling she is due on 1st April. Ours are due the same time jw4216 except Kiz hasn't bagged up yet so it looks as if you'll be first and I ditto "fingers crossed for healthy happy foalies all round".

Her last foal she had about 4 days before her 'rough' expected date. Thanks for the link - off to read it now. I had a bad year last year with mares/foals so i'm trying to be as prepared as possible, the more info i can get the better i feel.

Don't have CCTV but I have used calcium level test strips with along with changes in the milk composition and refractometer (Colostrum quality) readings for many years and have found them to be very accurate as an indication of foaling, even in mares that really don't want me there!!!

Yey I caught it. It was so amazing. Baby born at 22.48 at least that's what the webcam time was. I was just in time too. I switched on just before the two people stepped in to help mum and baby along. So spectacular.
Streaming went down and I thought I would miss it but it came back on just on time. Lovely mum and baby. Well done. Good luck with him he is lovely. Riggling around a lot. WOW.

That was mum and dad - I'm watching from my flat (over an hour away!) and was getting worried as she was straining but nothing was happening - he had a leg back but fortunately mum and dad were on hand - really not sure the foalcam's such a good idea now - the neighbours must wonder what I'm upto screaming at the computer lol!

Aww bless. Well done to your mum and dad they did a really good job didn't they. Baby was out safe and sound in about five minutes from when I saw them go in. It was such an amazing experience. I have seen recordings of foals being born but never caught it live.
Congratulations to all involved especially boothsdale for your worry. I am addicted to the foal cam now still watching mum and little baby.

Unfortunately he was a little tight in his tendons and needed a bit of help to stand. He's coming on great guns now though - can't wait to get home tonight and see him ;D

I was so worried about him last night after I fell asleep before seeing him stand up. Glad he is ok now though. Congratulations on the beautiful baby colt. He looks like he has his mums face markings, so cute.
It is such a good thing to do to let people watch the webcam. I wish more studs did this. It is so educational for those of us who haven't had mares foal before and for those with infoal mares to know what to expect when theirs arrive.
Well done to all of you and wish you the best of luck with him and Sasha.

Well, just had a rather embarassed phonecall from home - they've only gone and managed to get it wrong again - he is a she!!! dressagemad - glad you found it useful but please don't think that was a typical foaling - the majority foal lying down and completely unaided

Oh I know it was far from typical I could see that when your mum and dad had to step in. I was so worried watching but glad everything is ok. Can't imagine what you were all going through. What I meant was that it is just a good thing to be able to watch in the sense that you can see not everything goes as is planned and that it is probably best to leave it to the professionals.
We were considering putting my sisters mare in foal this year to Garuda K so have been watching recordings of foalings to be prepared as it isn't something to be a quick decision. Some have been "textbook" if a birth ever is and some other more difficult births. We have researched everything about pregnancy and foaling and in a sense it has opened my eyes and such a delicate but magical thing that I think we are decided against it and leave upto the experienced breeders and people with the expertise to deal with things like happened to yours. There is one thing researching it and planning and another actually going through it.
My sister has to deal with births that are more tricky all the time being a vet but it is so different when it is your own mare. I really admire all of the people who breed responsibly and breed such lovely animals. I think we will continue to support breeders by buying a foal instead, maybe by Garuda K if we are lucky enough.
I am so glad your little filly has come through her ordeal last night and is doing ok. It must have been very tiring for her and mum. She is beautiful and again contratulations with her.
