Lost 2 of my foundation section C mares a fortnight ago. Awoke to find Swalesmoor Harryette, heavily in foal, suffering badly with colic. Called the vet immediately but she had a twist in her intestines. She was 19 but still VERY active, probably the cause I feel. Had to have her euthanised. Imagine the horror the following morning to find her life-long pal, the 25 year old Balnecroft Rose in the same situation. Called the vet out again who couldn't believe two surgical colic cases in 2 days. Very sadly the same outcome. We had S Harryette from a foal and B Rose for 22 years. It is still very hard to think about, they were part of the family and bred some wonderful top-class stock. We think the loss of her mate broke B Rose's heart. Loved them both.

That must be one of the saddest things i have read. You must be in terrible shock, but at least you can draw comfort knowing they are together.

So so sorry. What an awful shock to lose them both so quickly.
