I am sitting typing this completely heart broken
after struggling through snow drifts to get to the stud today my wee boy Boxer was found dead in his stable
He survived Grass Sickness in 2007 but recently was a little bit up and down with his gut - a result of damage caused by the GS and probably the winter weather hasn't helped as was snowed in for 6 weeks in January, not good for a pony who needed to move to keep gut going
To say I am totally gutted and heart broken is an understatement, this pony meant the world to me, arriving in 2003 as a fiesty opinionated little colt to blossom into a beautiful stallion who meant the world to me and I think I meant alot to him too, not only yesterday was he neighing at me when I arrived to the stables and spent a while cuddling me, one time he was not known for his affection!
He battled so hard with the GS and he was doing so well for the past 3 years following it, Its even more difficult to cope with as I was there every day while he was in the Royal willy and then nursed him for so long spending so much time with him, I really thought we had conquered it
Rest in Peace Boxer Shorts, my heart is broken but at least you never suffered and were lying right at the stable door waiting for me to arrive x x x

thank you, I am so gutted, what a waste of such a pony, Grass Sickness is the work of the devil, until you experience it you do not know what an evil thing it can be, I thought that him surviving it was over the hurdle but I now know I how nieve i was, hopefully his death can help those at the Equine GS unit get closer to an answer of why it happens and how it can be prevented and properly cured

My heart goes out to you, I have been there so many times over the years. It never gets easier. Your little soul was loved. He's had happiness in his short life. Think of all those sad souls in India and Africa. If we can only take one and love it, that is all we can do. take care.

can I jusr say thank you for all your kind words, my 4 y.o. daughter went to say goodbye to him today and that was even more heart breaking as she spent so much time at the Royal willy with him as a toddler and then for the last 3 years he was 'her' pony as she had 'nursed him better', she has spent all her life at the stud so today was very upsetting
you are right though gadabout - he never wanted for anything and was spoilt to bits being extra special having survived GS - I guess in the grand scale of things he had a happy life compared to alot of the poor souls out there, it makes it even more heart breaking to read news about neglected and abused animals when you know how much of a heart they have

So sorry to hear this. We too have been blighted by the dreaded EGS and never yet had one survive, you must be devastated. My heart goes out to you but all we can do against this evil disease is make sure our loved ones want for nothing whilst they are with us and don't suffer if the inevitable happens. My thoughts are with you.
