I have to ask why would you put a pony in the ring in such awful conditions that has already qualified ? as it seems the placings are going down the line . I know we all like to ride at the royal show and when we have paid such an expensive entry fee we want our moneys worth but why subject the ponies to that when it is so unnecessary . I really don't get it !!!

Thanks more and Chloe, Sarah is delighted to have qualified Will, his posh name is Tybanadl Gwilym. She did not hear them call out her number and was left in the line up all disapointed then the steward came and found her, when she realised she had qualified she was estatic.

Did anyone else have problems in following the judging in the M and Ms???
I was led to believe there were some favours to be done in these classes!

I was surprised by the judging of the M & M riddens. There were ponies placed that did not go great. Including some that wrong legged.
I thought the conformation marks were strange.

It does look a bit suspect in the C class when Sam is being down as the rider of the qualifier (what i mean is that she wasn't a last minute replacement - she was entered as the rider way back in April.) Makes you think they must have known something. Although i'm not going to jump to conclusions - the owner may have known she couldn't do that date. I'm not saying it didn't deserve it, i wasn't there but i know it's a lovely example of a C. I'm just saying that it doesn't do anything to prevent rumours and suspicion!

I watched the A+B ridden HOYS - so many inferior animals from a breed standard and in the main overbent. I would be very interested to see the conformation marks - and yet again the first three from the same area as one of the judges? I wonder if the ride judge was happy with the end results?

With regards to Sam riding the C, the girl that normally rides it was riding another C in the same class I think so couldn't ride both!

I think the judging was very fair we qualified our section D Tybanadl Gwilym for HOYS today on a 2nd we are completely home produced and never been under either judges before our pony went well and the marks reflected that i did not watch all the classes but the connie that won went foot perfect and in the fell class the winner was in tears clearly not expected by her my daughter said she remembered that the 2nd fell went fab we did not watch A/B or the Cs but from what i saw very good judging.

My comments apply to the A+B class as that is the only one I saw.The overall standard was most disappointing - they seem to be second rate animals which people choose to ride rather than the best of their breeds examples.

Are you soley talking about the A/B class or are you talking generally?? I would say most of the top horses were there today although only class I didn't see was A/B class.

I really don't get it !!! Well you obviously weren't there! The conditions were absolutely fine, most people parked half on/half off the roadways and avoided towing, then straight up the roadways to the horse walk to the rings, all on a surface - am I cruel for subjecting my pony to those conditions then

I thought the A and B judging was a bit strange and in the connie class, some placings in the dartmoor etc was a bit weird too.
I did think the C, D and fells etc were slightly fairer.
Did anyone see the connie class; a certain competitors father stood at the bottom of the line so the conformation judge could see him. Does that not seem that there was a favour to be done?

Is that a chestnut with a flaxen mane and tail? Keesheen Renegade is the only one that comes to mind - ridden normally by katie novell Yep that is the one - lovely pony Lovely pony but think she would done better on Ghost in the championship. It stuck on its forehand and went downhill.

Have to agree!
What is so distressing to park on a hard road, walk down a hard road on my horse, ride in a nice menage all with the sun shining (apart from the minor downpour during the D class!)
If that could be every single show then that would be fab!

some placings in the dartmoor etc was a bit weird too. Hmmm in what way? Did the Shetland that came 2nd go on the wrong leg?

Sky- can you be more precise. Which classes and which ponies are you talking about?

Question - In reply to your post I am only referring to the A+B class. If you were to strip the majority of those animals they would not be of a sufficent standard to breed from in my opinion.
