Sky- can you be more precise. Which classes and which ponies are you talking about? I guess sky is referring to Dart/Ex/Shet class as that is the one I asked her about.

Didn't watch that class as I mentioned. I happen to like jerome Harforths B, which I think may have been gelded now. As I didn;t see the class I have absolutely no idea how it went and if it deserved to do any good!

My comments apply to the A+B class as that is the only one I saw.The overall standard was most disappointing - they seem to be second rate animals which people choose to ride rather than the best of their breeds examples. It was interesting to see ponies from everywhere in this class. Many have good track records. The marks were extremely close. The top eight were a mix of established ponies along with a few promising new combinations. Some of the A's did lack bone and front and some B's were very odd behind. The conformation judge was Mrs Rampling who happens to be the Hickstead judge Mrs Sabin's mother.

Question - in response to your post I am referring solely to the A+B classes. Stripped - the majority would not be of a sufficient standard to breed from which is very disheartening when you consider a breeders viewpoint. Why bother to strive and produce lovely examples of the breed only to see second raters produced under saddle by the "ridden fraternity"?

Well, i think there is not pleasing you guys. I thought the results were exactly as they should have been. An amalgamation of the conformation and ridden marks. The ponies were called in any order, front line did show and back line stripped then they swopped over. They conformation judge was strict on things like pony not standing up properly and not trotting straight to judge and little hops and jumps were penalised, it wasn't just conformation. The ride judge watched the pony carefully right until the last salute, she also gave the pony a quick look over before it set off on it;s show. They did not discuss who they wanted to put through, who they wanted to place and were simply doing what they wanted as individuals. I say well done to both of them and guess what........... we were not placed either.

Happy now you are so right i watched the connie class and my daughter watched the fell dales highlands and we both thought the same, the show judge was fantastic she watched every second of every show moved around to watch change of rein in each show and generally gave everyone the same chance. This gave us hope as normally you can see what is happening if you watch a couple of classes. I do not know how anyone can critisise these 2 judges.

I watched all the A & B's being stripped. Some of the B's were very weak behind and few moved straight and agree that most of the A's also lacked bone and or thigh. Chetwynd Caspar, the Yaverland pony and Waitwith Connie were the only A's to track up on the strip. Many were daisycutters.

Hmmm i thought the connie class judging was strange, there were some bad examples placed.
I thought the performance judge was good, however the conformation judge had some strange ideas about what is a good breed example.
