Can someone please tell my why BOTH whp rings are on the grass and ALL the flat classes are on a surface??? The ground is so hard it seems very unfair that the whp's have to jump on grass! These ponies need to last all season and continuing to jump on concrete ground cannot be good!

We are definately not going if the ground stays this hard with no rain. Yes surely the in-hander's could be on the grass. I dont think many will choose to go! We all except jumping on grass when there is no alternative.

I agree was just debating if to go or not before I looked at this thread and seems as there are arenas I would have thought the workers would be on them

Hopefully there will be a little rain before the weekend to make it slightly better.
Does anyone know of stabling close to Bold Heath?? Need 1 stable for Sunday night. (coming from Scotland - so somewhere north of centre)

No offence to the flat ponies but they aren't jumping! The workers should really be on a surface! Fingers crossed for the rain.

Well i hope they swap and put the workers indoors! My little man doesn't do well inside so I would much rather an outdoor M&M ring....

i hope they reconsider the ring situation, better putting the WH on a surface or even indoors, ground conditions not good enough for jumping. we will not be jumping if its on grass, shame as we were looking forward to this show.

M & M YOUNG riders r in the main noisy indoor arena and i also agree the workers should definately be in the ooutdoor, u can split that MASSIVE outdoor in to 4 rings. i think workers outdoor arena and the m&m in one split of the ring and sp's fr lr in the other split. i think it is just silly!!

totally agree, the ground is like concrete it is not fair to ask ponies to jump on this ground. PLEASE NPS AREA 5, move the whp to surfaces.

Well i have to spoken to NPS Area 5 and unfortunatley they were most un-helpful!!! I was told the workers were on grass, end of conversation. They were not even prepared to hear me out! Such a shame as everyone feels the same and we were really looking forward to this show! Perhaps if committee members had WHP's they might understand!

They wont be riding ponies in CHAPS classes - just horses. Im not to bothered about it being on grass, but it does seem a bit non sensical! O well!

i think NPS area 5 have done a fab job swapping the showground at such short notice , any one who has ever been involved in organising a show at this level will appreciate how difficult it is to sort everything out !
No one will ever be happy all of the time , and i think you will find that Vixter is a very accomplished WH competitor herself so will have considered all options available !
Sorry rant over ! ;D

Well said, you can't please everyone!
And aren't working hunter ponies/horses supposed to be able to compete on all types of gound? Most county shows have their working hunter courses on grass and you wouldn't ask them to change their rings around if the ground was too hard.

Most county shows have their working hunter courses on grass and you wouldn't ask them to change their rings around if the ground was too hard. ↲Not getting at you but you are missing the point. WH people dont mind jumping on grass, of course ponies should go and jump on all types of ground, BUT we are simply questioning the thought process of putting jumping on concrete ground rather than surfaces?? When at bold u have a choice. At shows with no surface, fair enough, you like or lump it. Surely in most peoples opinions flat and in hand ponies have less chance of sustaining an injury on hard ground than jumpers?

The people who organise Area 5 have their reasons for having the WH courses on the fields - I'm on the committee for a local riding club and we sometimes make decisions that our competitors don't agree with, but unfortunately that's just the way it goes....as you said sometimes you have to like it or lump it. As thehighlandpony said, we've had some rain now and I'm sure there's more to come so that should make the ground a little softer for you

I think the point made by 'JadeCannon' is what we all have been trying to get across!!! We fully appreciate whp's should beable to jump on anything but when ground is like concrete and surfaces are available it seems stupid espicially as HOYS is indoors and on a SURFACE!!!!
Responding to 'ferret' comment i am heavily involved in running a very big two day show so i totally appreciate how hard it is to 'get a show running'. I dont think anyone has said that area 5 have not done a good job in changing venue at such short notice but they dont seem willing to discuss moving rings or even give a valid reason for the whp's on grass etc! As 'vixter' is an experienced whp competitor surely she understands the point being made!

Oh and do want to add that i think nps moving the show promptly to a good venue was such a good decision. I agree, it must have been extremelly hard trying to 'reorganise' the rings and parking ect. So thank you for doing that. Fingers crossed for sum rain today and tomorrow, if it leaves it much later than that it will be v slippery on mon for all.
