Admittedly I missed the closing date for a show by 3 days, so I rang the secretary and asked if it would be OK if I sent a late entry and she said yes as long at is arrived by the Saturday (next day). So I sent the entry off first class and today in the post received the thing back saying they would not accept it as they received it on the 25th and entries closed on 18th May. I posted it straight after I spoke to the secretary, first class, is it my fault royal mail don't deliver on time. NO. It was £61.00 worth of entry money for one horse in two classes, I know a few show secretaries that have said how poor entries are this year and are begging for entries and money to continue. You would think that after having the courtesy to ring up and ask if they would accept it, they would have the courtesy to accept the thing! Rant over

Actually cant be mine as i closed on 15th, we always advise recorded or special delivery anyhow for guranteed postage and never just first class as doesnt always arrive, never rely on royal mail oh and if you have had a yellow sticker on it it means you packed your envelope to thick and or used wrong size.
You openly admit you posted it first class and not recorded, so yes it is your fault it hadnt gotten there on time. Had you had it signed for you woud have known, and if you are one of mine i did call the numbers on all 3 i rejected to advise that they had been. people get enough warning about closing dates maybe people will learn that a date is a date, and no we are not struggling for entries we have reached a maxium quota.
I am under strict orders from my boss to shut them on time, and post marked 15th .....

Fair enough it was 3 days after the closing date i rang if they didn't want to accept them don't ask me to send the entry in after it had closed. Could have saved my postaged, there postage for sending the entry back and both our time. I'm sure it would have been quicker to put my entry down on the entry sheet, rather then writing the letter that came back with the entry.
No it wasn't your show EmmaJane.

It's not always just a case of just putting your entries down on an entry sheet. Things have to go to print, and sent off for approval by different societies. Had I been in your shoes, I would not have trusted a first class stamp to get my entry there.
