Hi all HGers.
What a lovely place to hide from the football on TV.
Had an amazing ride on Cannock Chase today, all the birds were singing, some deer about, no pesky cyclists, hardly any flies.
I really think it is horse heaven until it dries out, when it gets a bit stoney, but I know all the deer tracks where it stays green and it is soft in the forest usually too. I cant imagine anywhere nicer to ride, no wonder the Kings and Bishops saved it for themselves for hunting. I dont expect that they thought a collier's daughter would be hacking around there in the 21st century.
Where do you hack out? What is it like?

Well hello there! Perhaps you could help me? I live on Barr Beacon, and would love to bring my shettie to the chase to drive him over there (fed up of the roads ) Do you know who I have to ask about this? Some one told me once I would need a key to pass through gates? And welcome to the forum, it's nice to know there are others local!

You will need to contact the Forestry Commision to obtain a permit - there is a charge, but no idea how much.

Hi again, To gain access to Chase for vehicles (even horse drawn ones) I would ring Chase Wardens or Forestry Commission, 01902 696315 or 01889 586593. Sorry for delay, I forgot to scroll down. Its not easy being old.
