feeling really miserable today, there was a small part of me that was hoping the vet was wrong, i asked him to re-examine her today because her udders have just tripled in size over the last 24 hrs he said he is as sure as he can be that there are two in there and he said he wouldnt be too surprised if she starts over the next few days. Oh god why me? I also found out from the solicitor that its going to cost £500 just to 'instruct' a barrister thats before they actually do anything well right now i feel like giving up everything, i just dont have any fight left in me. Sorry just feeling sorry for myself and needed to get it out!!

Oh dear I feel so sorry for you, it's bad enough worrying about the mare without all the other hassle. If I were you I'd concentrate on getting the foaling over with first and worry about kicking useless vet's butt afterwards. I just posted a link on LP Violets nesting thread for foaling alarm hire, I don't know if it would be useful to you. Re the useless vets have you notified RVC of your grievance? I would do that if I were you and then it is logged as to why you are withholding payment rather than just being a dodgy payer. At least it could put this on hold till babies are sorted. Good luck with everything and if good wishes are any use you will have 2 bouncing coloured fillies. xxx

Good idea KJM - inform everyone why the vets bill not paid and say you will deal with any other questions, once the foaling has taken place.
Then forget it for now and concentrate on watching your mare like a hawk xxxxxxxxx

Be completely positive, the vet is question should not be of your priority just at present, he is going nowhere so concentrate on your gorgeous mare and forget them for the time being!!! Once you have your gorgeous "foals" on the floor healthy and well you can then go for the throat!!!!! Good luck and keep your chin up gal, I wish we were nearer and we could do something for you!!!!!!! xxxxxxxxxxxx

Hi anotherdeal, thought I would tell you about a mare on my yard as it may be helpful. She lost a perfect foal while foaling last time, so this time our vet decided that when it looked like she was very close to foaling i.e. bagged up and on the day she was running milk, he decided that he would induce her so that he and another vet would be there to help and the foaling would be under control as much as possible. This is what happened and, yes, it took them both to get the foal out but because they were there and everything was planned she had a beautiful healthy colt with the minimum of fuss. He injected her with oxytocin and within 20 mins the foal was on the floor. This maybe an option for you were she could stay at home yet you could have the help on hand. If you or your vet would be interested in talking to mine pm me for his contact details. I have been following this thread with interest and I wish you all the luck in the world. I keep checking back hoping to see news of a successful delivery! Just wanted to say that I think what Lancs has suggested above is a brilliant idea, and would make things alot easier for both you and the mare. If your vet is willing to do this, then definitely take the opportunity because a vet's presence at such a stressful time is invaluable! Also, get onto the RCVS about your discrepancies with your previous vet. They are usually very helpful and should be able to give you advice. Here is a link to info on their complaint's procedure - www.rcvs.org.uk/Templates/Internal.asp?NodeID=89916&int1stParentNodeID=89644. It is more to do with disciplinary action, but may be worth looking into. We have refused to pay a vets bill before due to a huge error on the vets behalf (Suturing a puncture wound which then became infected and made the pony's leg swell to twice the size!) We went to the partners who accepted our complaint and didnt have to pay a penny. So best of luck with that But more importantly, very best of luck with the birth. Keeping everything crossed for you! x

I think it's quite normal for twins to foal early so don't panic too much about that - certainly better for your mare if they foal early since they won't be as big. I hope your mare is another one who defies the odds and this time tomorrow you have 3 in your stable.

Can you not tell the bad vets you are going to go to the horsey press about their incompetence, but could legalchick on here give you some advise ?
Will be thinking about you tonight and have everything crossed for you and your mare and babies.
