As if I havnt got enough on my plate - Bertie Bassett has gone all scabby and manky again! He went the same this time last year and we spent about £400 on skin scrapings and treatment, but never really got to the bottom of it? Maybe its a seasonal allergy? I have looked for the old thread, to see if the list of treatments shown on there help, but I cant find it? HELP?

oh dear Lovepink...yes you have enough at the moment without a scabby manky cat!! In what way has he gone all manky again then? im curious to know as one of mine seems to go through a phase at the moment of licking/itching/scratching.....and generally looking rather moth eaten been to the vets thinking the obvious flea allergy but all of mine are reg wormed with drontal and frontlined and vet found no evidence of any 'lodgers'.. but even the pattern of wehre he was scratching/licking wasnt consistent the vet said with a flea allergy.. he did however suggest that he was probably 'stressed' and has now got into a vicious circle of the itch/scratch thing so gave him a jab to calm things down... this helped for a month or so...but have nocitced him going a bit scabby again...just where he's been scratching...... his hair is growing back slowy but i think a repeat trip to the vet very soon... one thing i have noticed tho is that he always seems warm/hot??? if that makes sense? im wondering if this is a seasonal thing myself as this is the first time he has been like this and he's only 3 now.... would be interested to find your older post about Bertie Basett Lovepink....

penstock - yes, thanks thats the thread - Itchy scratchy, scabby. My cats too are all on stronghold and we NEVER have fleas!
It has come about exactly the same time as last year. I googled cat allergies and they do get seasonal allergies which cause all the above symptoms......

Bertie just gone back to the vets as getting worse. They now agree its a seasonal allergy and he has had allergy injection & antibiotic injection, so fingers crossed he will feel better soon.

I wonder if some piriton cream might help soothe his itchy places? Would he let you put it on? I'm just remembering Jamie with his gloves and goggles! Or perhaps some aloe vera, which might be better if he's prone to washing off anything you put on him?

After my last consultation with the vet - they wanted to have Bertie in for a general and biopsies taken...... We have already now spent £600 plus and he is not insured ! They wanted another £200 for the next lot of tests !
I googled his symptoms and as the vet was adament he had a fungal infection - I was advised by several people - not vets - to use LAMISIL cream, which is for athletes foot!
I know going against your vets advise, is not a good idea, but the cream cost £4 and with hubby not working, since Jamies death - it seemed worth a try......
Guess what?
Bertie is tons and tons better! His hair is growing back and he has no new sore crusty scabs!

Poor bertie, glad he is making a recovery. I know these vets need to cover thier costs but sometimes thier fees do seem to be an awfull lot of money. Total cost of twinkles treatment was over £3000! Thanks be to goodness he was insured, i guess. Take care LP and ber Bassett.

I have now changed Bertie, Pickle and WInky from STRONGHOLD to ADVOCATE, as I am hoping that will prevent Berties skin problem flairing up again.
They used to be on frontline, but the fleas became immune to it. Then stronghold has been brilliant for about 5 years, but I think they are immune to that now too.
The vets said suddenly everyone wants ADVOCATE so I wonder if the immunity is a widespread problem?
