I was in a mixed M&M class on my Sec D and there was a young girl on a black irish cob type next to me. I had seen her before and I knew she couldn't organise herself or get it to canter. I did my show and she said how good it was and off she went and did hers. It was a complete and utter mess, she didn't have a clue what she was doing, just went round and round , tried to canter but couldn't so did a few more trot circles all on the same rein. When she came back I tried to help her as I knew the feeling well as i'd been there once, so I said she needed to plan were she was going and stick to it and use all the space instead of just one corner.
She shrugged and said she wasn't into showing anyway and that he could jump 6ft so didn't care. lol She was later seen in the novice pony workers trashing all the jumps. pmsl.

Some years ago at a BSPS presentation, mrs Mansfield announced there was rosettes to be presented to those members who had qualified for Hoy's and RI, daughter went up and Mrs Mansfield asked her "well dear ,and how did you get there" ( meaning where did you qualify) . Daughter looked at her and replied "in the trailer of course "

ahh gladys i love that one! lol
got a few very funny ones but can't remember at the moment. although i was at a local show in 2006 i think as a warm up for p(uk) champs when a woman with a section C colt(very bad type) came trotting into my sisters class(m&m small breeds youngstock,so wrong class for pony anyway) shouting to everyone 'move out of my way,i have the winner of this class here' we all of course properly cracked up,pony was then duly last and nearly sent out of the class aswell! ahh she's been a laughing stock since then.

Some years ago I was judged in a mixed M&M class local level and it made me laugh when the judge said she would have placed me higher if I had a velvet browband and matching button hole!!

We had that one as well. Did a lead rein class when my son was about 5 years old on his section a - he was wearing a smart tweed, oxblood jod boots etc. The judge said thathe would have been placed higher if he had been wearing a navy jacket, black jod botot and a pretty coloured browband!

LOl, I went to a local show with a baby pony of mine, I was watching the FR class, my friend was in it with her new pony, she came second and when she came out she said to us, "the girl who came said to the judge did you see my pony buck over there?" Apparently the judge went red and didnt say anythink!!

I don't think that your one is too bad pinkis4eva if she had no other way of distinguishing between the competitors but the average competitor sounds unusually good at turn out considering it's a local show!

I has a couple of "funnies" when judging last year. The first was a girl who was in the line up in a ridden class, I was watching someone else do their individual show, when the peace was shattered by this other girl screaming at the TOP of her voice "Get your effing feet on the effing ground you effing b@stard", which, obviously, made me turn round. Horse was on it's hind legs waving at everyone. I told her quite sharply to shut up, which she did. When I spoke to her at the end, she said that the horse's owner had told her to shout at it and hit it if it did anything naughty. Funnily enough, it was unschooled, bad mannered, and came last.
The other was a girl in an in-hand class, with a fairly nice horse who was so badly mannered it was actually trying to run her over. It failed totally to stand still while I looked at it's conformation, preferring to spin-dry it's handler at the end of the lead rein. Whilst I was giving out the rosettes at the end, girl says to me "Sorry it has no manners, it's a driving horse". Possibly the worst thing she could have said to me, as I have driving horses of my own, and have always found driving horses to have exemplary manners! It wouldn't be so bad, but the bad mannered horse is one they use for weddings!!!!!

You know what, I always feel a bit worried when I see wedding couples going off in a horse drawn carriage, seeing as usually they are just a rented pony and cart, how can you know how well behaved the pony is? I'm sure most of us have seen the videos on tv where the horse takes off with the bride in tow Now I know for sure that if I'm ever crazy enough to get hitched then I certainly won't be getting a pony and cart to take me to the church

When I first got my young Friesian I took him to a local show, to get him used to the environment I decided to put him in a novelty class Most handsome Gelding, He was a bit of a Tart and showed off to the crowd but the judge loved him and placed him first. I was so very proud that she thought he was lovely and he had his first Rosette even if it was only a novelty class, As I was being handed my rosette a loud mouthed woman with her horse went running out of the ring swearing! I asked my friends what had happened and they told me she was swearing about me!! Totally confused I took my boy back to the trailer and confronted the woman, She said I should not have been In the class with a Stallion!! Hence it was a Gelding class anyway I explained he was not a stallion he had been gelded 8 months ago. She the proceeded to call me a tart and walked off to her massive, extremely expensive horse box. Apparently she was showing at a professional level so had the hump that she didn’t win. Some people!!!!

I can see why you won, he's gorgeous! No matter how much money you have, whether you think your horse deserve to win is upto the judge! No body can win all the time!!

the only tale I can think of was when I showed my ex racehorse as a 4YO the first time many many many years ago. ( he is 20 now) :-) This was my first ever go at showing with my showing pals. it was one of those riding club classes where you had to jump a fence. Now...., I so dont do jumping after facturing a vertabrae in my neck after a nasty jumping fall and lost my bottle completely.
I didnt know there would be a jump, as nasty pals didnt tell me. Worse still my TB would baloon fences and give them all 6' clearance... it was not looking good
I was so nervous about going over this flipping fence which I have to say was not tiny..(about 3'3" that I totally got on the wrong leg in canter.
In my show, My pals shouted at me "wrong leg" apprently I shouted back "eff off its counter counter" The judge was not impressed by the wrong leg, my nerves, or commentary...., but comented that my horse was very well balanced in counter canter.. LOL

My best one when judging is from a mother of a 13.2 SP rider 'SINCE WHEN DO SHOW PONY RIDERS HAVE TO WEAR BLUE/BLACK JACKETS? I HAVE NEVER HEARD OF ANYTHING SO STUPID' That was a good one! Another good one was in November I had about 5 animals which were JUST 4/5/6 (late foals I say if they were born in Novomber!!)

My son at the PUK Winter Champs was asked by the extremely nice judge "how old are you, dear" and he had been told to look her in the eye and answer all questions, tured to her and shouted "66". He was 7. She replied "well, that makes me 88", "yes that right" he says!!!!

After telling one competitor with a grossly overweight cob "In my opinion I'm afraid I do think your animal is carrying far too much weight which I think is spoiling it's action" The retort was "Well we didn't come here looking for a judges opinion....." i thought you were going to say the reply was 'are you saying i'm fat?' ;D

I took one of my ponies to a local show as a warm up it had not been out since a youngster and was placed around half way down the line up whilst giving me my rosette the judge said it's very wide behind but if you work it more it will come perfectly straight (got to say it was the first time I had heard of this miracle conformation transformation lol) ;D

After reading these hilarious stories, i have to put on a story embarrasing about me!! my friends and family will never let me forget!! when i was 10yrs i was riding a 4yrs old 13hh SHP at its first show! When the judges gave out our rosettes, she said to me " your pony is a green' (meaning she is a bit novice), in which i replied " No she is chesnut!!!". everyone cracked up outside the ring!! just to note i am now 20 years old!! lol
