SOLD
Hawk has now been sold to a fantastic new home, thank you for all your lovely comments about him.
Would consider swapping this lovely boy for a full up welsh section A or a small B (boys only please), must be a real chunk good leg on each corner to take up my leg.
Rode my friends very chunky A last night and he was awesome.
No aspirations to go to HOYS, just show at RC level but do like lots of white on legs, open to any colour.
Thank you for looking.
Mods hope its ok to quote original ad here to save trauling through.
Black 42” Standard Shetland gelding, fully registered with the Shetland Pony Stud Book Society
Bred by the Ulverscroft Stud, by Sire: Ulverscroft Charlie Boy and dam: Ulverscroft Halifax.
Hawk turned 5 on the 19 May 2010.
It is with a very heavy heart I offer this little fluffball for sale.
A little bit about why he is for sale: Hawk was bought in January this year to soften the sadness of retiring my beautiful show horse; I didn’t have the heart to by another ridden horse, so I thought it would be fun to buy a fluffball to love and play in-hand showing with for a while (my friends have many Shetties, so having been part of the Shettie show team for many years, we are very used to their wilful and playful behaviour). He has done a wonderful job and he has really won our hearts, but I am 5’7 and he is too small for me to ride. I miss riding so much, so sadly he has to be sold so I can begin to find a new ridden pony and best friend.
I feel we have given him a really good foundation; he was bought from Natalie Greasley in January, she had started long reigning him which he does beautifully. He was broken to saddle in February, he was such a good boy. He long reigns, lunges, stands for the farrier, picks his feet up, has rugs on without a bother, clean pony in the stable, a friendly and fun pony with his friends in the field, loves being bathed, loves being groomed and fussed, a real people pony – in fact I am sure he thinks he is a puppy not a pony! He has good feet and no signs of laminitis, or sweet itch. He stands and leads nicely, he has been taught to lead from the shoulder and stand when I stop with no command (ready for a good lead rein pony). He has been taught manners with patience and understanding. He travels well, stands at the box. Has been to several shows and behaved very well. He stands to be clipped.
I have shown him in-hand several times at Riding Club level where with good competition, he won both his Shetland classes and placed 2nd in a large class of M&M smalls – his good conformation and straightness commented on; took him to Cheshire Agricultural Show where he behaved beautifully but unplaced in a huge class of barren mare and geldings, I feel at County level he is more of a ridden pony as the judge commented was he broken to saddle (I am no expert this is just my opinion). His stamp is certainly draft not the smaller finer Shetland.
His ridden work is coming on nicely. He walks, trots and canters – still gets a little wobbly in the canter and circles can be a little square if he forgets where his legs are and his shoulders start to float out. But it’s all there, he just needs time and patience to bring it all together. We have given him a good variety of fun opportunities to practice his ridden stuff, again nice riding club shows where the judge was so impressed with how well he was doing as a then newly backed 4 year old. He had a play around the very small clear round (some led, some encouraged!). He has had a play at the beach, which for a baby pony is quite daunting – all that open space. He found the waves a little scary at the beginning but soon settled and had fun splashing and playing. Ideally I think he would make a super lead rein pony as he loves being led and handled. He also loves to jump, and I would love to see him with an open jockey next year contending the workers. He is always ridden in a big open field as we don’t have the luxury of a ménage and he has been taught not to snatch to the grass. He is learning to canter on and we occasionally get a nice gallop. He needs a good competent jockey off the lead rein to be firm and continue his ridden work. We have the luxury of lots of jockeys, all who are used to Shetties that have sat on him, ranging from 6 year old, 9 year old through to just turned 13 (who are really now too tall for him... sadly) but who find him great fun. He rides differently for all the abilities. The older kids really sit him up and he looks stunning if not a little exuberant at times, but in comparison he behaves well and almost flat for the smaller younger jockeys. The kids all have their own ponies to compete so he has only been lightly contested this year, due to no fault of his own, just not enough room on the wagon!
A lovely chatty pony, welcomes you every morning with a song full of whinnies. Always comes to call in the evening, first to the gate post chatting ‘pick me’. He has been a pleasure to own and this will be a very sad sale.
We are based in Warrington, Cheshire (North West area).
No loan homes (please don’t ask he is for sale only) - for sale at £1950 ono (Open to negotiation to a quality home.)
