Rules, Conditions & General Information
1. No business cheques accepted.
2. Please send a large (C5) SAE for return of numbers.
3. Prize Money:

4. 1st Prize money only if less than six entered. If three or less entered no prize money paid.
5. Prize money MUST be collected from the Secretary’s desk on the day of the show. Failure to do so will render the prize money forfeited.
6. No substitution entries are allowed.
7. It is the exhibitor’s responsibility to ensure they have entered the correct class and that any clash of classes the show cannot be held responsible, Classes will not be held up.
8. Entries are accepted on the understanding that exhibitors have read the rules and agree to abide by the various society rules and the rules of the show.
9. All stallions and colts two years old and over must have a current stallion licence. Unless governed by their individual breed society. Exhibitors may be asked to produce this licence in the ring or prior to entry.
10. Mares with foals must be four years or over. Three year old fillies with foals are not eligible to enter.
11. All foals must be at least three weeks old on show day and accompany their dams in the ring.
12. Any animal not sufficiently under control shall be removed immediately without question at the request of a judge, steward or any show official.
13. Any person wishing to lodge at protest having reference to any person or exhibit shall do so in writing, whilst the class is in the ring, and at the same time deposit the sum of £50 with the Show Secretary. If on investigation by members of the Show Committee the protest is not sustained the deposit shall be forfeited to the funds of the show.
14. The decision of the judge is final. Each exhibitor shall abide by and accept the decision of Judges and referees who shall have power in their uncontrolled discretion to withhold any prize for the lack of competition in any class or
otherwise.
15. The National Pony Society Area 5 committee nor any of its officers, servants or assistants shall not be in any way responsible or accountable for any loss, injury or damage to any person, animal vehicle or property in connection with or arising out of this show.
16. It is the exhibitor’s responsibility to have their animal correctly insured.
17. The exhibitor MUST pay by for any treatment by the show vet by direct arrangement with the vet. The Show is not responsible in any way.
18. Please note that spurs are NOT allowed in NPS and BSPS classes.
19. Exhibitors are requested to study the various society’s rules for the qualifiers listed.
20. Public Liability Insurance, which is strongly recommended, is the responsibility of the exhibitor.
21. Handlers of Stallions and Colts must have attained their 14th birthday in the current year to compete in any class at this show and riders must have attained their 11th birthday by the 1st January in the current season for any small breed or any pony not exceeding 138cms and their 14th birthday when riding large breeds.
22. NPS Championship qualifying rules. NPS Mountain and Moorland Qualifying Rounds: These classes are judged under the Rules of the NPS. Ponies must be registered in the main body of their respective Mountain & Moorland Stud Books. Part breds are not eligible.
23. Qualifying rounds for most NPS competitions are open to ponies owned by NPS members and non-members but only ponies owned by adult NPS members are eligible to qualify for the final of the competition.
24. The highest placed pony owned by an NPS member in each class will qualify for the final. Where this pony has already qualified the pony standing next in line which is owned by an NPS member and has not already qualified receives the qualification. Qualification may go no lower than 3rd place.
25. Judges and/or stewards are requested to check membership cards prior to presenting the qualifying rosettes. NPS Adult/Standard members will be required to upgrade to Full Members status to enter the Final.
26. NPS Show Pony and Show Hunter Pony Qualifying Rounds: These classes are judged under the Rules of the NPS. Ponies must be registered in the NPS British Riding Pony Stud Book, Register or Appendix, the GSB, the AHSB, the AASB or in the main body of their respective Mountain & Moorland Stud Books. Part-Breds are not eligible unless entered in the NPS British Riding Pony Stud Book, Register or Appendix. Ponies must be plaited.
Qualifying rounds are open to ponies owned by NPS members and non-members but only ponies owned by adult NPS members are eligible to qualify for the final of the competition.
The highest placed pony owned by an NPS member in each class will qualify for the Final. Where this pony has already qualified the pony standing next in line which is owned by an NPS member, and has not already qualified, receives the qualification. Qualification may go no lower than 3rd place.
Judges and/or stewards are requested to check membership cards prior to presenting the qualifying rosettes. NPS Adult/Standard members will be required to upgrade to Full Members to enter the Final. The NPS/Rosettes Direct Home Produced Ridden National Championship
a) This championship is for Home Produced ridden stallions, mares and geldings.
Ponies which are either stabled at home or in a DIY yard and which since 1st January in the current year have not been shown by a producer or stabled in a producer’s yard other than on a DIY basis or at stud. Ponies shown in these classes must be produced and shown by the owner/spouse or his/her son/daughter/grandchild, who does not derive income from working with ponies or horses. Please enter this class in the spirit it is intended. Competitors who contravene the above will be disqualified.
b) Qualifying rounds for this competition are run in conjunction with other NPS open ridden classes. The owner need not be an NPS member for the pony to enter this competition but only ponies owned by NPS members can qualify for the final.
c) The highest placed pony in each class, owned by an NPS member and ridden by a person wearing a white arm band qualifies for the final. Where this pony has already qualified the pony standing next in line, which is owned by an NPS member and ridden by a person wearing a white arm band, receives the qualification. (NB. At the final qualifiers from the MM-OR and MM-4/5/6R will be combined into a single class).
Riders of eligible ponies must wear a white arm band to indicate their Home Produced status.
27. HOYS qualification is subject to confirmation from HOYS office.
28. Ponies Association (UK). The top three exhibits in each eligible class will qualify.
29. This show is affiliated to the British Show Pony Society (BSPS) and all persons entering, competing, showing or otherwise taking part in BSPS classes, whether or not members of the BSPS are subject to the constitution and Rules of the BSPS including the disciplinary procedures, and shall be deemed to have consented to the jurisdiction of the BSPS.
30. This show is a qualifier for the BSPS Summer Championships. 1st & 2nd prize-winners in appropriate classes will qualify except in the Cradle Stakes and Open Intermediate classes where 1st , 2nd and 3rd prize-winners will qualify and in mixed height classes 1st, 2nd ,3rd & 4th place prize-winners will qualify providing the pony is registered in accordance with rule 23 and ridden by a BSPS member.
31. This show is a qualifier for the BSPS CHALLENGE. Ponies qualify as follows: The highest placed pony in the Leading Rein, Lead Rein of Hunter Type, First Ridden, Show pony, Cradle and Nursery Stakes and Intermediate Classes that has not qualified for the 2011 Horse of the Year Show, in the appropriate class will qualify. If the highest placed pony has already qualified for the BSPS Challenge, the qualification will be awarded to the next eligible pony. This show is a qualifier for the BSPS Premier League and Black Country Saddles Best Rider.
32. Owners and riders must be BSPS members to compete in classes with qualification for HOYS and animals must be registered with the BSPS
33. This show is qualifier for the NCPA Pony of the Year Show and Part-Bred Welsh Ridden Championships to be held at Uttoxeter Racecourse on Sunday 11th September 2011. First and second prize-winners in appropriate classes will qualify. Qualification cards must be presented with the rosettes in the ring.
34. NCPA Star rosettes will be awarded in classes; 6, 32 & 69 to the highest placed member. Membership badges must be worn and current membership card produced in the ring.
35. The committee reserves the right to divide, amalgamate or cancel classes depending on the number of entries received.
36. Please note that it is an offence to tie horse/ponies to the outside of a wagon, trailer or any vehicle or other structure and leave it unattended.
37 Horseboxes, vehicles towing trailers and other motor vehicles MUST park where directed to avoid congestion. Failure to comply with this request will lead to you being asked to leave the showground immediately and all entries forfeited.
38. Only open to CHAPS (UK) Members and CHAPS (UK) Registered Horses/Ponies with a HOYS Competition Number (this can be obtained from CHAPS (UK) Admin). All stallions must be graded with CHAPS (UK); ID Cards to be carried in the ring. Lead reins not eligible for these classes. www.chapsuk.com Entries sent without a current HOYS Competition Number by close of entries, will be returned by the show as ineligible to compete. Only one exhibit may qualify per class. If the 1st placed animal has already qualified, the qualifier may pass down to the highest placed exhibit standing to 5th place only, who has not already qualified. No spurs are allowed when ridden by a junior rider or by any rider in the pony sections (non native not exc 153cms,Native Cob, Traditional not exc 148cms). All ages taken as at 1st January in the current year.
All exhibits will require a height certificate to compete in the height restricted qualifying classes and to obtain a HOYS Competition Number (a photocopy should be sent to CHAPS Admin, 1McLaren Cottages, Abertysswg, Rhymney, Tredegar NP22 5BH).
Horses/ponies are to be produced at HOYS in the same type category in which they qualified.
Failure to comply with ANY of the Qualifying Rules will result in the forfeit of the qualifying place.
The "pull-in" or "no pull-in" system is at the discretion of the judges on the day. If no pull is used, competitors will be asked to line up in any order from the initial presentation.
In Hand Classes.
37(A) This show is affiliated to the Coloured Horse & Pony Society (UK). Both the owner and the rider/exhibitor need not be a member of CHAPS (UK), nor the horse or pony to be registered with CHAPS (UK) but in order to qualify they must BOTH be Showing members and the horse/pony be registered with the society before this show for the qualification to be valid except P(UK) /BSPS qualifiers, where Membership and Registration, if not already in place, must be made within 14 days of qualification for the qualification to remain valid. The CHAPS (UK) Championship Show will be held on 2nd, 3rd & 4th September 2011. Shows held on or after the date of the Championship show will count as 2011 qualifiers. Members to apply in writing to CHAPS (UK) for the appropriate qualifier card. All In Hand Classes are also qualifiers for the P(UK) Summer Championships - please see members’ handbook. P(UK) Summer Championships to be held 11th- 14th August 2010.
38. THE ROSEBERRY NORTHERN BREEDERS IN HAND CHAMPIONSHIP
The supreme champion and reserve supreme champion Mountain and Moorland in-hand ponies, qualify for the Roseberry Northern Breeders in-hand Championships to be held at the NPS Area 4 North of England Show at the Great Yorkshire Showground on Monday 30th August 2011.
NB Champions and reserve champions will qualify. Qualifiers do not have to be members of NPS.
Qualification for P (UK) Summer National Championships
1st 2nd and 3rd placed horses/ponies in all Summer National Championships will qualify for the 2011 P (UK) Summer National Championships.
Qualification cards will not be presented in the ring.
Competitors in qualifying positions, who are not current members of P (UK) are allowed 14 days in which to become members and register their horses/ponies in order for the qualification to remain valid. The exception being any competitor qualifying at a show between 1st July and 31st July their membership must be submitted within 48 hours after the qualifying event in order for the qualification to remain valid.

A Silver Medal Rosette is offered by the National Pony Society for the best registered pony in the Mountain & Moorland In Hand Section.
To be judged under the Rules of the NPS. NPS Silver Medal Rosettes are only awarded when the Owner of the champion pony is a Member of the NPS. A valid membership card must be in the Rider’s/Handler’s possession on entering the ring and be produced immediately on request by either the judge or the steward. If the Owner of the Champion pony is not a Member, or the Owner’s membership card is not immediately produced, the rosette may be awarded to the Reserve Champion provided they have the required membership card. If the Champion pony has previously qualified it is still entitled to the Silver Medal Rosette but the Qualification Card goes to the Reserve Champion pony, provided the Owner of that pony is a Member of the NPS. The Silver Medal Rosette and the Qualification Card can be awarded no lower than first Reserve.
Qualifiers are entitled to compete in the final of the Silver Medal Rosette Championship to be held at the NPS Summer Championship Show 3-5th August 2011.

HORSE OF THE YEAR SHOW MOUNTAIN & MOORLAND COLNE LEADING REIN NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP.
Class 21 Open to registered Dartmoor, Exmoor Shetland, New Forest and Welsh Section A or B mares and geldings 4 years old or over not exceeding 122cm. Riders must have attained their 3rd birthday but must not have attained their 9th birthday before 1st January in the current year. To be shown in one of the snaffle bridles illustrated in the NPS Rule Book.
The highest placed animal (not already qualified) from the first three in the final judging will qualify for HOYS subject to verification of qualification from the HOYS office. Please note: Ponies that qualify for this Championship at HOYS 2011 must hold a valid JMB Full Height or Annual Certificate, a copy of which must be produced at the time of entry to HOYS. All ponies that qualify for the final must have a valid & current JMB Height Certificate a copy of which must be forwarded to the P(UK) office in order for your qualification to be validated.
The highest placed pony within the first five, not already qualified, will qualify for the P(UK) Young Rider M&M Ridden RIHS Championship to be held at The Longines Royal International Horse Show

iv) Qualified for the M&M Novice or Intermediate Ridden final at the NPS Summer Championship show
v) Qualified for the M&M Ridden Championship final at Olympia in previous years

HORSE OF THE YEAR SHOW NPS/ BAILEYS HORSE FEEDS MOUNTAIN & MOORLAND RIDDEN PONY OF THE YEAR CHAMPIONSHIP QUALIFIER
Ponies must not exceed the height limits as stipulated by the relevant Breed Societies. Ponies that qualify for the Championship at HOYS 2011 must hold a valid JMB Full Height or Annual Certificate, a copy of which must be sent at the time of entry to HOYS.
JMB certificates are not required to enter this qualifier
Riders can be of any age with the exception of those riding stallions who must have attained their 12th birthday before 1st January in the current year. Correct riding attire must be worn, spurs are not allowed and whips must not exceed 30”. Riders and/or Owners in cases of a junior member being the rider must be members of their respective Breed Society, NPS, Ponies (UK) OR BSPS. Judges may only judge one qualifier during the current year and marks will be awarded as follows:
Show, freedom of action - 50 maximum
Breed, type, conformation - 50 maximum
In the case of equality, the pony with the highest show, freedom of action mark will be deemed the winner.
Split Classes
(1) Where there are more than 20 entries forward in a class, the judges may split the class into sections according to the circumstances on the day.
(2) Each section must be marked and the top five ponies with the highest marks should go forward to a final judging. The marks are not to be displayed at this point and no rosettes awarded.
(3) For the final judging the top ponies should be invited back into the ring and lined up in any order. No further show will be given.
(4) The judges should then refer to their original marks. In the case of equality the pony with the highest show, freedom and action mark will be deemed the winner. If there still be equality at this point, then the judges’ decision will be final.
The highest placed animal (not already qualified) from the first three in the final judging will qualify for the Horse of the Year Show 2011.

b) The owner does not have to be an NPS member for the pony to enter this competition but only ponies owned by NPS members can qualify for the final.
c) The highest placed pony, owned by an NPS member, in each class goes forward to the final. Where this pony has already qualified the pony standing next in line, which is owned by an NPS member and has not already qualified, receives the qualification. Qualification may go no lower than third place.
d) The course will consist of a minimum of seven fences, one which must be a spread. A change of direction must be included. Water jumps will not be included in Class 60 or Class 61. In Classes 62-64 if a water jump is included it must not exceed the maximum width. If a hazard is included, it will be numbered and judged as a fence.
THE NPS / AREA 25 MOUNTAIN AND MOORLAND WORKING HUNTER PONY.

Part-breds are not eligible. Mares with living foal born during the current season are not eligible. The entry fee includes a £10.50 Horse of the Year Show contribution.
The winner in each class will go forward to the Final to be held at The Horse of the Year Show, NEC, Birmingham on the 4th to 9th October 2011. If the winner of the class has already qualified the pony next in line, which not previously qualified will be deemed the qualifier. Qualification may pass no lower than third place.
