I'm not sure what is wrong with my cat, she is 2 and a half years old and has a small bowl of iams nuts and a little bit of wet meat twice a day. this past few weeks she has been begging for food all the time. I thought it may be worms but I do her regularly and she isn't due to be wormed again til November. Anyone got any ideas? I am seeing vet with her on Monday for her booster so will mention it.

Ask him to do a thyroid check. She might be a bit young but worth checking all the same.
My elderly cat would down a whole tall tin of catfood per day, cleaned up every scrap, would steal food if you left it on the worktops, but was still really skinny, turned out she had an over active thyroid, one of the symptoms is them being ravenous the whole time.

Thanks will ask that, she is insured thankfully! Although she isn't skinny but not fat either - will try to post a pic.

Have a feel at her neck, can you feel her 'adams apple'? And does her heart rate seem fast?
They are other symptoms, but if she has hyperthyroidism she's very young, I've just been reading up on it and it says it's usually found in older cats, although can be as young as six. So at 2 and a half it would be very unusual.

Well took her to the vet who says she is slightly overweight but nothing wrong with her in his opinion so I think she may be bored/greedy so have started a new feeding regime which should make her feel fuller but actually be less calorific.
On another note they charged me £51.75 for her annual booster - WTF?! That's more than my horses booster costs (excluding call out)!

Mine eats for England some days and hardly anything on others , she is a bengal and is very long and lean , I was concerned about her weight but the vet did not seem worried....She is a good hunter and like Heathers cat , brings me presents , alive , dead and left overs ...her fav thing at the moment is frogs ...euhhh !
If you are worried , get the vet to check them out , to put your mind at rest xx

My murphy is too much of a wimp to hunt much! I get the odd dragonfly in summer and have had two injured mice and a baby bird or two - think she goes for the easy targets!
She is still begging alot on this new feeding regime but I think it will take a bit for her to get used to it.
I hope she will start going out more when she slims down a bit too as she tends to stay in alot.

my cats wake me in the middle of the night for food, crying like mad and sitting on me, they are always hungry!!! they are very active though so don't seem to get fat but they can go through 3 bowls of dried food and 6/7 sachets of wet food between them each day!! greedy things, lol!
are you sure no other cats from the area are pinching your cats food...?
maybe it's the time of year, my cats def eat more in aut/winter than summer time.
: )

The vet weighed her at 4.45 kilos which is half a kilo heavier than last yr.
