... this site is for juniors as well you know... You actually dont have all the rights... let the juniors have a say. pipandwill, it is vitally important young children are protected from inappropriate information, you must surely understand that. If not, then I am afraid you are showing your immaturity and this is exactly what adults are concerned about.

Also, it's obvious sometimes that a parent and child are 'sharing' an account. You will get some posts that are obviously children's postings, text speak and the like, then suddenly a much more articulate and correct posting that would seem to have been done by a parent. It's against the rules to share an account, and we do sort it where we pick up on it, but just because of the sheer volume of traffic on the site, there will be some that slip through the net.
We do keep a close eye on the junior area, but I do think juniors should be supervised AT HOME when on the net, and taught internet safety, because how would you know if an adult was posing as a child to gain the trust of children in the Junior Lounge? You simply wouldn't know, and it does give me the heebie jeebies when I see children arranging to meet up, and posting names and ponies names that makes it really easy to work out who they are just by a bit of basic googling.
We do what we can but the bulk of the responsibility has to lie with the parents, they should be checking their childrens accounts/inboxes etc.

You actually dont have all the rights... let the juniors have a say. steady on.... ;D no one said adults have all the rights or juniors cant have their say... its just the older peeps on here dont want to subject young children to more"adult" discussions in "chat" I think the juniors should totally have their say but I dont want to be on chat late at night discussing issues with young children...

There have been 12 year olds in chat very late. What are the age limits to be a HG member? My oldest daughter is not on the internet past 10pm and the lap top is in the lounge. On a school night she will be in bed at 10pm

No there shouldnt be limits on what time they should or should not be on here. If you dont like it lump it. How very rude and disrespectful. Gets a bad name for the majority of the juniors who come on here and conduct themselves properly.

How about a certain avatar for certain age groups? Like a baby for under 12s, etc. Or add a J to the end of their usernames for junior? On another forum, they had junior moderators but only moderators for the junior area. Maybe all junior members could put in their location "The Junior Area".

Thats out of order really, if you read they are not saying Junior members are not allowed on the site, the adult members would just like to know if they are speaking to a junior or an adult member, no need to get so worked up is there. Im nearly 17, and don't consider myself a child. I do chat in the Junior Area but also on the rest of the forum, but even i've noticed there seems to be some VERY young ones on here, When I first joined a forum, you had to be 13 to join, I take it this is different because there are many under 12s on here. But even I would like to know the sort of age im talking to.

They don't want to say something to a child, that will get them in trouble. Of course junior members can have their say, but it is people like you that are giving us a bad name. We are very lucky to have such a lovely forum, with such experienced horse owners, that allows us juniors to have our own area & chat in the rest of the forum.

Well guys... Im really quite offended by theses comments. Well I was offended by your 'like it or lump it' comment. I don't think anyone has said anything out of order, they have merely replied to your comment which you now seem to have deleted. If you want to post in the adult areas, then you really should expect people to reply to you and say what they think.

Well guys... Im really quite offended by theses comments. Pipandwill, you need to realise that this is not personal. Most adult members (myself included) would prefer to know who we are talking to so we can address children in an appropriate manner.

Well guys... Im really quite offended by theses comments. I'm not trying to get at you here, but commenting like you did above makes all of us look quite frankly like immature brats. I'm sure you didn't mean any harm but please think before you comment. I'm only 15 and do chat in the junior lounge as it's a fab area but also like to comment the rest of the forum as there are some very young members on here and all that text talk is just not my thing sometimes I prefer the wealth of knowledge seen from the older members. I don't go in the online chat as I believe it to be mostly for adults, I'm sure they would be mortified if they knew some of their more inappropriate conversation was being observed by someone so young! I agree with trying to identify junior members but think it would be impossible to police and also think it might increase safety risks as it would make it easier for people to target under 16's.

Then perhaps you should have considered what you posted before you posted it - part of being an adult is about taking responsibility for ones actions. The "like it or lump it" comment from you speaks volumes.
A very good point made showingfanatic regarding the cons of identifying under 16s

Well pipandwill I can assure you I was extremely offended by your like it or lump it comment which was aimed at me. Pencaedu is right your comment speaks volumes. If you want to chat with the adults then you really need to grow up. Well said showingfanatic what a lovely sensible and mature attitude you have

Pipandwill, your comment was made towards the adults and even I was offended! I still go with the saying 'If you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all' It really is the best advice i've been given.
Your comment was very offending, and if you can't take any criticism back, don't post anything. Simple as really. I wouldn't dare speak to an adult like that and as i've said before I don't consider myself as a child, but a comment like that is so disrespectful!

I agree with trying to identify junior members but think it would be impossible to police and also think it might increase safety risks as it would make it easier for people to target under 16's. There is no easy way around the problem and your comment above hits the nail on the head. I think we should also move on from the comment made by pipandwill.

Well, really you are the immature ones. "ganging up" I can assure you, its not nice, just because i voiced my opinion like you all did, dosnt really give you authority to jump on the comments. Well, maybe you should put yourselevs in my shoes, would you react if everyone jumped on your comment making rather nasty comments. Yes... So, please understand, when its all of you making really harsh comments to me... I react, just like you would.

If you want to chat with the adults then you really need to grow up. Well said showingfanatic what a lovely sensible and mature attitude you have Thank you brindlerainbow and I also agree with your above comment. I think when on the general forum, the tone of comments must be adjusted according to the audience. Perhaps an age limit should be imposed on this forums for very young users, if I was under 12 my mum would not be happy about be being on here and I'm quite shocked there are such young users, just because of the safety risks outlined on this thread. At least most users around a teenage age are more aware of how to compose themselves. With the occasional ones letting us down. I really don't think there is a fool proof way of moderating the age of older junior members though afterall, you only have to put in a false date of birth and voila!
