I have never posted on this page before so it makes a change! We are lucky enough to own our own yard, and gave a home to 4 'ferals' from the cats protection league. All went well and one day last November, we found a kitten curled up in the hay with the others. A day or two later she disappeared and we were really upset.....but oh no, she reappeared bringing her brother with her. All well, spayed now but only after she produced 3 kittens herself. So we now have 8 + our 3 legged old cat at home. Talk about the price of horse feed and hay, try feeding all this lot!! Anyway the point of this post is, we duly turned up early this morning and guess what...? ANOTHER kitten has arrived, ginger and white, and has happily moved in with the others, im kind of dreading tomorrow as the chances are there will be another one. Have an idea where they are coming from, but the farmer wont have them spayed so there are an awful lot of ferals around. I should have said that none of them are now wild, totally tamed by the husband and adored and named by us all, but we will run out of money and not sure how to stop yet m0re joining us...any ideas anyone???

Sounds just like our place. We gained two litters of kittens, mothers and passing Toms, and now have two living in the house, one living in a stable and others coming for food each day. It costs me more to feed these than the ponies!!
We have finally got them all spayed and neutered, thanks to the CPL. So hopefully no more increase in numbers.
Can you get the CPL to leave you a trap so that you can catch your visitors, if they will get them done for you?

Do you have any mice or rats though? I'm seriously considering taking some feral cats on rather than putting poison down which I hate...

Mine definitely catch mice as they leave them for me as presents. Haven't seen any evidence of rats for ages either.

Where are you? I would love another cat. Our last one died at the age of 26, but as we had house on market, decided to wait until we got to Devon. All that has gone pearshaped now so we have room for a cat after Christmas, as long as it is already neutered in Cannock Chase.

Ah, we are in devon, and just for the record dear cat loving friends, there is now another one, black and white......cats protection league here we come. Auntiebarb, what an amzing age for a cat. The very best people to get in touch with imo is cats protection league or blue cross, all their cats are neutered etc, and desperate for good homes. Good luck and let us know!!

Thanks Ladybird, i shall definitely get onto them once we get back from Christmas trip. Toby was a rescue, dumped at the kennels with his canine friend when the owner had a stroke. The Social Services never even checked up to see where it went. I kept my horse at the kennels, so adopted Toby, a ginger and white fluffy cat with turquoise eyes. He was some cat, he fought off our son's husky over a rabbit once. I thought he was about 20 when he died, but the vet had him on record, from before we had him, and pointed out that he was 26 when his kidneys failed and he had to be pts. I still miss him so much. We live in a lane but not too far from a main road, which is a bit of a worry, so we shall look for a mature homeloving cat, eventually.
