Ok - here is the latest :
Nothing has happened!
Except for the fact that she was very unhappy in utility room, every time I took her out for a wee she walked very determinedly towards stables. Finally got hold of vet who saw her yesterday who told me if that's where she wants to have them - let her! So have now created clean bed of easibed(all we have) and sided it with hay bales and using a bit of Heath Robinson technique managed to put up the heat lamp. So to say elderly pony and little dartmoor are surprised by whats going on in the next stable is understating it to say the least! Dartmoor keeps leaving his dinner to stand, munch and stare! Perhaps the sound of hay being chewed will help comfort Poppy - it is a lovely calming sound... husband in Suffolk off to pub no doubt - typical man!
So that looks like it for now folks, vet thinks she may be at least 12hrs away yet ...its nearly five so I am off to have a gin (and light fire/feed cats and dogs/make dinner etc etc....)
I know the easibed stuff may not be ideal but its light, clean and warm and its all I have to hand!
PS Dashed off at lunchtime to check young ponies in field 4 miles away - went down track in car only to find a huge Gloucester Old Spot pig walking quite calmly by self...so bizarre it made me laugh!

oh god and I thought she may have started as you hadn't been on for ages!!!!!! Tell her we are all in suspenders here. The thing you will have to keep an eye on with the easibed is that she doesn't bury them!!!!! Also when their eyes start to open it will stick to them. Just make sure they are warm and all should be fine. Philippa

Oh dear the suspense is killing us all. Perhaps she will ahev them in the night - good luck. I agree that Easibed is not really best it will stick. Can you put something over the top - like an old clean horse rug or something? I've got some offcuts of sheepskin that you can have if that would help. Puppies love it. I know you dont live too far from me pm if it would help you.

Feel this should be from "Exhausted of Leigh Sinton"
Checked her every 30-40 mins till 11pm then went to bed to watch Ben Affleck film - fell asleep. Woke at 12 ish something and went to check - 3 born with another just appearing. Everything seemed fine so went back to bed and watched TV till 2am then checked again - another 2. All seemed well. Wind now gale force of course! Got up again at 3pm, found that she had left pups in pup hotel and gone for drink, then horrors of horrors looked as if she wasnt going to go back as she went off into a different corner!!! All pups mewing away like mad! Coerced her into coming back whereupon she promptly produced another one. Stayed with her as I was so worried she was going to abandon them but gave in about 5.30 and crawled to bed where child had come in as well during the night. Child woke me up about 6.15, told her about pups so she kindly went on watch and came back with news that Poppy is now the mother of 10!!!!! (Forgot to say in all this that I was on phone to vet in wee hours to make sure what I/she was doing was OK - thats how tired I am!) Afterbirth has come away, fed her some weetabix and am now on the phone to make sure vet comes to check everyone is OK and whether we can move her into house etc....
thanks a bundle for all your internet support - its been a massive help - funny how messages from strangers mean so much!
Will post later to let you know outcome of vet's visit and what exactly we have - at the moment it looks as if they are all black.
PS OH, having deigned to ring me from pub, will be home sometime tonight. I will be in bed by 7.30pm.

congratulations on your new brood. ;Dglad she welped them easily.I never get that kind of luck.Puppies always turn up on windy nights. My latest brood appeared in gale force winds.Hence why the girl is now got the posh name of 'Atlantic Gael' Feed mum 4 times a day with puppy food and that should give her enough calories to feed the pups.

Congratulations Julie - there you go, you can relax now - well that is until they open their eyes and start running round, you will be a headless chicken at this point!!!!!! lol. No, seriously, glad everything is ok, ignorance is bliss (not meant in a bad way!!) we never leave ours from starting til all are out and suckling. She made life easy for you, it may not seem like it at the moment but when you breed bostons who usually end up at the vets at 3 o clock in the morning for a cescarian and then you have to stay with them 24 hours a day for the 1st 2 weeks!!!! A natural easy birth is bliss.
Can't wait for the pics.

We have had confirmed 8 boys and 2 girls, all good sized and healthy, one girl a little small - think she may have been the last one. No cleft palates but Poppy doesnt have masses of milk so have just been to get puppy feeding thingy to help with extra puppy milk (small ones first!) A couple look real bruisers!
Does anyone have advice how to mark them so we can tell them apart? I am supposed to weigh them and dont know, other than lipstick, how to distinguish who is who! I'd like to keep some weekly record on weight by pup as well....
Ridiculous I know but here is how tired I am (think its mainly emotion) I had to move OH's car to get the truck car out, so left it running....I only drove off, went to buy puppy food etc and came back to find I had forgotten to turn the d**n thing off!! What a drip.
Also went to see young ponies in field to see if they were still standing after all the storms - they are but one is lame! Good Grief. And the Gloucester Old Spot is still ambling along the lane!!
Cant tell if they are dark chocolate or black and cant tell if any of them will go curly coated like Poppy.
Cant wait for bedtime!

To mark them, you can use food colouring. it marks clearly but coz its food colouring its totally harmless and stays for a while. Can be washed out /comes out as the pups start malting. I would only use a drop or apply it via a cotton bud so the majority of the die doesnt stain their skin. otherwise, watch their personalities grow and i'm sure u'll know who is who then haha

Easiest way is nail varnish on a claw. I know they will be tiny at the moment but it doesn't 'lick' off. Just use a small amount and write down which toe you have marked against each puppy, then you can keep weights updated easily (we weigh ours daily for the first couple of weeks or so, then every few days after that)

Many congratulations!!! Don't forget to take lots of pics - especially so you can post some on here. You will soon get to know which is which but we marked ours with food colouring inside ear (numbered them - biggest no 1 etc.) . Have a gin on us!

I find the easiest way to make sure the littleist is getting a feed is get it on 1st and watch that a big un doesnt knock her off.As long as she is putting on a little weight each day and it can be as little as 1/4 oz she will catch up when they wean.my tiddler is now a middle weight the weaning porridge just gave him that extra boost. ;D

Update:
Everybody seems well, still have the ten. Prodded husband all night long to make him get up and see to them - wonderful! He's taken some photos so will try and get him to upload them over weekend. I think they may be a mixture of dark chocolate and black as some do look slightly different coloured.
Feeding Poppy constantly as she was never a heavy dog anyway and she is a bit ribby now and of course the children seem to sleep for a bit, then its back to the milk bar.
Thanks for all the advice remarking - a big help!

Still have 10, they've doubled in size and are quite vocal, no eyes open yet and looks as if we have blacks and chocs and most should go curly coated. Only pics I have are 24hr old ones so really waiting to post decent ones - will keep you informed! Mother doing well, eating about 8 large meals a day as well as 2 lites of milk - dont know if that is normal as she was never given milk before...

i'd be a touch careful with the milk, not because it is particularly bad for them, they wont get worms or anything, but just coz they cant digest the milk sugars (lactose) very well and it can lead to Loose Stool (dirrahea). ;D

Id take her off the milk. And at 2 weeks of age the pups need to be given their 1st worming. No need to go to vet, your saddler if he stocks horse wormer will probably have puppy wormer. It is in liquid form and try getting a syringe as its easier to administer. ;D

Vet put up the wormer for me so I have that. Poppy has ample water but seems to be interested only in the milk which is unlike her - what if I start to dilute it in order to wean her off the taste? Or should I jsst be mean and stop altogether? She is very unlabrador like in that she would rather not eat if she doesnt like something so am worried that we could have a milk "stalemate" and she is feeding 10 after all!! Oh dear, this is all very stressful....just rebuilding the bed box in the stable as I need to get her off the shavings before their eyes open.

I had exactly the same problem, couldnt get my bit*h to drink anything else, then both the vet/friend suggested short term ...warm tea with milk and sugar, worked a treat. She still has a cup with me in a morning
