The friends I am going with on Wednesday, to see the dressage at olympia, say to dress smart as we will be going in the posh bits?
OMG - I dont really do smart?
How smart do I really need to be?
I was going to wear nice jeans and boots?

I went last yr and wore jeans but i was in the non posh bit. There were quite a few in black tie and ball gowns so I guess this is what your friends mean, maybe double check? but seriously some people looked like they were at the oscars!

Whatever you decide on top, make sure you put your thermal knickers and vest on under.
I think you might be safer not wearing jeans.

I would wear a nice top and jeans and boots. The only people that normally wear black suit and tie are waiters ! x

We go every year and get tickets so we can get into the champagne bar. I wear nice jeans, decent boots, my Tesco cashmere jumper, a casual scarf and never feel out of place! You will have a good time and Sam will love it. Our son is now nearly 16. We have been going since he was 7 and he would rather forego any trip or event during the year rather than miss our Olympia trip! You might just find it will be a new tradition for you and Sam to enjoy each year? Have a lovely day x

If you want to go in the champagne bar and restaurant, just wear some smart trousers rather than jeans and a nice jumper and gilet, something like that will be fine.

MM - Love your signature santa! Trouble is, I dont have any smart trousers The ones I had are too baggy, due to heartbreak diet and the ones I have a size smaller are too small? I am not very confident about going out anyway, so this is making me very nervous

If that's how you feel then just wear what you're comfortable in - you don't have to go in the posh bits! I only go in the daytime and I'm not posh in the slightest, although perhaps it's a bit smarter in the evenings? Only thing thats an absolute must is comfy shoes for the retail therapy - loads of doggy stalls too!

no thermals needed, very warm in the area, always go in jeans, dont worry about clothes, only smart people are in boxes, or having ringside meal, otherwise usual horsey clothes, we always laugh on the tube , you can spot the show people a mile off!! have a wonderful time, we alsways go wed night for the freestyle, its fab!!

Gosh I can remember going on the tube once and in the same carriage was a Scotsman dressed in full fig kilt, sporran, long socks, thumbstick - the works. Turned out he was judging the M&Ms and a VERY eminent gentleman of the Shetland world!
Have a great time LP and Sam.

Jeans will be just fine, have a great time and dont worry, no one will be worrying that you have a pair of jeans on
When we went last year on the saturday some people looked as if they had come straight from mucking out, lol

I was in this bit last year, with a dark pair of jeans, a shirt and pearl earring on! I then mad my hair as scruffy as possible & whipped it back and voila! I fit in a treat.
L.P. please go, you will enjoy it once you get there, don't over think it. Nobody will notice what you are wearing, they are either too interested in you actually being there or enjoying the champers! You can always leave the area if you feel that uncomfortable... It is better to regret something you have done than something you haven't!

Not posh at all, its really funny getting on the tube, the ones that are going are so easy to spot. Padded jacket, dubbarry's, gloves just like normal but perhaps a bit cleaner and fresher. If you have time go in the bar at the Hilton and treat yourself, you may rub shoulders with the dressage elilte. One year I was sat behind C and a women who was the next row back was getting all cross about a party in one of the boxes which was making some noise. When I got up to go the box was only chairmans box from BD.

Its no good, I have bottled it and cancelled going tomorrow I rarely go out anymore, so this was too much pressure for me. I am going on Saturday instead with princessstacie22 and we will stay out of the posh areas and just mingle eating chips and drinking coke. That is much less pressure on me. Thanks for all your help and advice though xxx
