I've been told it costs a fortune to take a 7.5tonne lorry into London but I've googled for info and can't find anything except stuff about lorries over 18 tonne or standard car charging which only applies between 07:00 and 18:00 mon-fri. Does anybody know where I can find more info and whether I'm Ok if I drive in on Sunday and out after 6 on Monday? Thanks.

I found this on a truckers site so assume it refers to lorries(other toll charge info included lists all the diffrent vehicle specs): The Congestion Charge. London. The Charge costs £8.00 per vehicle if paid on the day of travel,or £10 if paid on the first charging day after travel. Fleet vehicles pay only £7 if registered through a fleet account.
The charging times are 07.00 till 18.00 Monday to Friday (except bank holidays and the days between Christmas and New Years day).
The zone covers the boroughs of Notting Hill, Kensington, Chelsea, Hyde Park, Marylebone, City, Westminster, Lambeth, Soho, Southwark, Finsbury, www.truckersbible.info/page22.htm

I think you can get to olympia without going into the congestion zone, but what you probably need to look at with a lorry is the emissions thing, which is something else entirely?
Hang on I'll google . . . .

Thanks Milliesmum - All the info is there. It is £200 each day including weekends. B*****! For a little while there I thought we could get away with it, but no. I did have a 3.5 tonne lorry organised for the last bit of the trip but unfortunately it's been hospitalised. Anyone know a hire company or want to share the trip from the M25 north side of London in to Olympia?? It's too far to come all the way down in a trailer especially as the weather is looking dodgy.

We live in the congestion zone. You can take a non complying lorry in once and you get a written warning and fined the next time so just crack on!
Also Olympia isnt in the zone you only enter the zone after you go past Olympia - So come into London on the M4 and you wont enter it! and worst case senario you do by accident you wont get fined!! So dont worry just have fun! and Good luck xx

Paddywak is once into Olympia and once out of Olympia one or two visits though? Does it check vehicle registrations in one direction as you cross into the LEZ or whilst within it too?
Also be aware if you prepay it is considerably less than if you await the fine to be sent
AND Not all 3.5t Horseboxes are exempt as then need to have been 'downrated' when they were converted to a horsebox and most conversion companies do not do this at the time of conversion so check your reg number on the checker on the TFL website.

pretty sure that once only rule is now not working, did def work 2 yrs ago, but i rang emissions people last year ansd they said amnesty now wasnt on, as emmissions thing had been in place for 2 yrs now, so wouldnt risk it as its £200 per 24 hrs so £400 fine!!! we are going tin by trailer, no congestion charge payable weekend , but you can pay by cc on phone for monday, have to do it within 12 hrs of being in zone, or another fine £50 i think!!

mac, please be aware that you do not park AT Olympia, you have to travel to the official car park and then get the mini bus back again. I have always paid the congestion charge in case we cross into the zone from Olympia. Can you borrow a trailer for the trip, then you only have to worry about the congestion charge for the vehicle towing it. Our lorry is also subject to the low emmisions charge, so would not want to risk a huge fine by taking it into central London.

Mac is travelling down from Scotland, so a bit of a journey for a pony in a trailer.

It is really confusing! I am travellng down in my 3.5ton, the paperwork sent out does state that Olympia is on the outskirts of the Congestion Zone, so providing you dont take a wrong turn you should be ok, I a still majorly worried though, I just follow the Sat nav!

Depending on your sat nav you may have an 'avoid tolls' option you can set.
You need to go to Olympia via the M25/ M4 to avoid congestion charge too not all the way down the M1

It would be easier for Mac to stay on the M25 and go all the way round (Westbound) and come up from the M4, (follow signs to Heathrow, then come off at (I think it's) junction 15/4B.
That route will bring you up to Chiswick and then onto the North Circular -> direction of Shepherd's Bush, if my memory serves me right.
May seem daft to go South, but it's also a more fluent route for a pony, anyway.
As for a trailer, well, as Guestless has said - that's absolutely not an option from Scotland!
The very, very best of luck, by the way. Don't worry about the actual class, the drive is the nightmare bit! Once you are there, ENJOY!!

I have spent weeks trying to sort this out - LEZ if your not compliant and your lorry has never either by you or previous owners been in this area then you are safe to travel in and out of LEZ areas for 28 consecutive days from the first day you went in - you get a warning - after that when you go in again its a fine 200 per day, and i'm not certain of this but from March this year is also applies to 3.5 tonne lorries.
enjoy

3.5 tonne Lorries are subject to the LEZ charge if they were registered before 2002.

not correct Joey , this was allowed 2 years ago, but amnesty over, that was what i was told by compliance office last year, wouldn't take the risk, trailered it last year, fine too expensive!!

Although Olympia is outside the zone - the moment I went to the car park it was in so I was glad we had paid in advance. And take a map because there are no signs to the parking and it is quite complicated!

Congestion zone information: www.tfl.gov.uk/tfl/roadusers/congestioncharge/whereandwhen/Olympia is outside of the congestion zone. Also the congestion zone does not apply on Sunday (Mon-Fri 0700-1800). Also you have till midnight the following day to pay. So you could drive to Olympia (via the M4/A4 as suggested, and this easiest route into this area of London anyway) and then if for whatever reason you DO go into the congestion zone (there are roadsigns and info written on the road when entering the zone) then you are fine on entry, and yes if you left after 6pm on Monday you would also be fine. If in the congestion zone on Monday, you either pay by midnight on Monday and pay £8, or by midnight on Tuesday and pay £10. You can pay in a shop, online, or by phone. UK: 0845 900 1234 Emissions zone charging is definitely your bigger concern & cost ! Lexy

for everyones information I did take my lorry in last year and because its F reg it was not LEZ compliant and because this lorry had never been in the LEZ area before I got me warning letter telling me if i did it again i would be fined : so anyone worrying about it dont - make sure though you get confirmation that your vehicle has not done it before i rang twice took names so i could confirm this just in case
