I decided to start this thread because I am sick of people on the ringside or in the ring making comments about yours or other peoples ponies. At the end of the day it is what the judges say goes, on judge may like your pony another may not. What I really cant stand is when people blatenly say things, e.g " I know the one that won went disgracefully" to their son daughter jockey etc. They could at least save them until they get back to the lorry!

I was watching the small breed m@m at Equifest two years ago and i have never heard such disgusting comments about a judge as i heard coming from a group of people stood next to me one of them was in a mobility scooter. They were very loud, when the rest of the foul mouthed ladies party left the "lady" turned to talk to me i walked off. We all ring side judge, but that was a joke, if shes on here shame on you, it was on a sunday 2009, mixed small breeds. They obviously thought they should have won!!!

It happens all the time, it's even more embarrassing when your pony/jockey make a big mistake in their show and still win, standing with all the other mums knowing your child doesn't deserve it is awfull, and has happened to me and my daughter on a few occasions

OMG Have been there Faye+Ash Its mortifying, I have snuck off very embarassed, many of the ringside judges had a few things to say about it, I was muttering to Hannah, "keep walking, I'm not with you!" lol Have heard many nasty comments from ringside know it alls, its awful to hear, especially in kids classes, they are all someones baby and someones pride and joy pony, no need to be cruel, I must admit, have heard it less recently.

I've never heard anything, maybe I am blissfully ignorant. I have to say though, if some competitors themselves think they do not deserve to win, maybe the ring side judges really are entitled to voice their opinion albeit with good manners.

I had someone shouting at me from outside the ring that the horse I was riding was lame, I took him out and got the vet to have a look, where he was pronounced sound. Next class same woman same thing, so the owner went over and this woman was bit*hing to her friends, she polietly informed her of the vets findings

...I find it really disgustiong when people do it when you actually really deserving of the win, if actually really upsets me when people do that when I have won or been placed higher than there child, especially when im really chuffed bout it. My mum had a fat go at one of them, I had just won on my nov 14 hander it was her 2nd show! It was actually quite funny.

been there. I've stood at the side of the ring, whilst me friend took my pony in. There where a group commenting on how bad she looked and that she wernt at all true to type ect... In the end my pony won and they went of on another bombshell about it. So me being me- had enough went up to them and gave the group an ear full and told them to keep nasty comments to them selves. well the face they pulled when they couldnt believe what i had said.... Shut them up ok.

I am not sure I have any sympathy for anyone involved in the showing world!! Judging can be unfair, biassed and (alledgedly) fixed! Competitors appear to b*tch incessantly about each other. The majority of us know the faults with showing and yet we go back for more....it's just the "name of the game" and not likely to change! 10 years hence and we will still be moaning about the same old problems!!! Lol

I show to show off my homebred stock, or occasionally bought in breeding stock. Buying in something just to show would hold no interest for me.

So you have the competition connections making ringside comments and so owners etc go give them an ear full and 'shut them up'. Very Nice ........

Sometimes it is difficult to keep quiet eg When a badly behaved pony still wins When a small child cries because it is down the line and judge moves pony up When geldings are showing signs of being doped but not put down the line When an overweight horse/pony wins When a horse appears to give judge a poor ride but stays above one which appeared to give judge an excellent ride I do remain very puzzled at times but have a quiet voice so my mutterings unlikely to be heard!

Frm someone who listends to what is going on around them I do find it funny lol!! What I also find funny s how children in a majority adult class get cuteness factor points DESPITE not being able to perfomr the required sho or get the pony to canter/trot when required and just bounces around on top whilst said pony does anything it wants But at the end of the day if the judge decides to place them above more deserving horses and ponies it is them that has to live with it. Shoing is subjective both to those in the ring judging and those outside of it. We are all entitled to an opinion but there are nicer ways to do it than sitting bit*hing.

I imagine at some point most of us have said something at the ringside when not being able to make head nor tail of a final line-up. However, those individuals that mouth off about a particular animal or rider, emanate silent venom when they pass, slow hand clap and give them black looks as they leave the ring, are bad mannered and often very intimidating, their sole purpose being to deliberately upset someone, and these are the last ones to go forward and put their money where their very unpleasant mouth is. On more than one occasion in recent years, I have said something, nothing unpleasant, but just normally a 'what did you just say about that pony?' and its often enough to yes, 'shut them up'. Having an opinion is one thing, being downright nasty with no other intention than upsetting someone to make yourself feel good, and being the gob on a stick in a crowd is another. Its no wonder some poor people have given up the ghost, not all feel strong enough to stand their corner or indeed want the confrontation, but if it stops those unfortunate idiots I have pulled from doing it to someone less confident, and perhaps upsetting them to the point they dont want to go in the ring anymore, then I 'm quite happy with that. I've heard a few comments when I've been in the ring, and if they have'nt walked off in disgust before I get to them on my lap of honour I always make the effort to thank them for their kind words.

... we all have our opinions, but it would be alot nicer if people waited untill they got back to there lorry! If you have a complaint write a letter to the organisers, dont voice it, if you do, i think it pretty daammmn fair to get an ear full off someone, to be fair you kinda were asking for it!

a year or 2 ago at a local showing show there was someone mouthing off about me and my pony saying stuff like 'oh they bought that pony ready made and they've ruined it already'etc. funny that considering we'd owned the pony since he was 3 and had done everything ourselves with him and he went fantastically! oh and their pony bucked several times and was down the bottom of the line, jealous much,I think so! anyway my sister and I turned round, said to them something along the lines of'look love,if you can't school a pony properly don't slag off people who can' oh my god the look on their faces! we didn't give them a mouthful,we just gave them some food for thought, funny enough they didn't say a word about anyones ponies last year. We'd head enough off them after they slagged of a friends pony majorly when the pony went amazingly with a tiny jockey and deservedly won the class, theirs wouldn't trot properly let alone canter. I have no sympathy whatsoever for people who slag people and ponies off majorly and then when they get told what is thought of them by the majority they go and have a good winge and cry,it's their own fault they really have to remeber what goes around comes around!

how about collecting ring rage ;D was at a show at the weekend with limited working in, they only allowed the competitiors in the collecting ring when the class previous to theirs was in the ring, the time came for Ashleigh's (age 9) working in slot, which at this time all the other lead rein and first ridden riders were also making their way to the collecting ring, just as the collecting ring was filling with tiny jockies about 4 adults came in, a few on naughty horses, my mum told them it was only supposed to be small children working in at the minute, did they listen? no they didn't, so my mum marched off to show office to sort it out ring steward came and told all the adults to leave the collecting ring, as soon as he went back to office 2 of the adults reappeared to work in, so Ashleigh took it upon herself to 'sort it' lol, she said to one of the adults "its lead rein and first ridden only to be working in!" and got a sickly grin in reply, then the adult walked past her and was so close her leg touched Ashleigh's, so Ash then said "could you get any closer?" the reply from the adult "i could if you wanted me to!" so Ash then said to her "you're a little big for a first ridden!" and the reply "you're a little cnfident for a first ridden!" Couldn't believe Ash was sticking up for herself and holding her own, normally if anybody had spoken to her like that she would have come straight over to me and had a moan and a cry, i was very shocked, and was also rather disappointed that the collecting ring stewards didn't do more to help the little kiddies work-in in peace.

Oh Ash did make me laugh at the weekend! When we were working in for pairs, a woman on a big horse cantered past us rather close so Ash said "Are you TRYING to annoy me!?" & then the comment about her bum! Lol! I seriously love that kid Sorry for hijacking I ignore people that slag me/my ponies off, I don't get offended or annoyed so it is easy for me. But if they start it, you got to finish it off! Just a strong yet polite comment keeps their mouth shut.

As a happy hacker, I just cannot understand why you lot put yourselves through all this nonsense of judging your ponies/horses. I couldn't give a fig for anyone else's opinion of my horses, they are both superstars to me. It seems to me that you pay as much for entries as the rosette is worth in the first place. I assume that if you win a lot, your pony is worth more, but are you going to sell it? No you love it to bits, so you will keep it. The only trouble I encounter is b%&***( minded cyclists hurtling past us like driven spirits.

Wasn't really ring rage but earlier this week someone (who blames her horse for everything and beats it if it does anything wrong) said to my friend, obviously aimed at me and my horse, I don't know why people pay so much money for a pony when the rider isn't even that good and the pony plays up... so later on that day I said to the same friend so the other person could hear, I hate people that are big talkers... and that slate other peoples riding when they beat and blame there horse for there mistakes, the other person glared at me and I just smiled back... lol

I entered a then lightweight young D in a sports pony youngstock class at a show, all correctly trimmed and plaited up. Asked steward if it was sport pony youngstock - told yes. Next time I passed him I asked if they were going to be shown on the triangle as is usual as there was no sign of one - told no. So carried on and class was judged in the normal fashion and we did pretty well, can't remember where exactly but almost at the top of a decent length line, and then there was a little conversation in which it came to light mine was a pure D, at which point I got stick from the other competitors for taking a reg native in a HUNTER PONY class. I had checked, for heavens sake, I'm not a mind reader nor responsible for others' mistakes! Furious at missing our proper class.

SarahP - just a point of interest really, why couldn't your pony (if you'd entered that class) have been a pure bred native and shown as a hunter pony? There are plenty of natives trimmed up, plaited and shown in ridden hunter pony classes after all. In fact, the champion at HOYS this year was a section B. Truely intrigued
