I made the mistake of googling it before I used it after I read the label and as usual there are horror stories, but I have to say that I did end up using it in desperation as nothing else was killing the little so and so's and another person on my yard had used it before with no problems, and she's usually an incredibly eco-friendly non chemical person so she made me feel better about it.
It worked to perfection, had no side effects at all and he didn't even notice it. My only advice would be I used the smallest amount for a small shetland and it wasn't enough to go through his coat so I made up a larger batch next time. It doesn't keep once it's diluted you have to use it straight away so don't make too much, it goes miles as it's so dilute and the bottle is quite big and last but not least, don't do it in the wind or close to a water source and make sure you wear gloves.
It certainly had the desired effect and wasn't as bad as I expected after reading the label!

Insecticide - quite a strong lice / bug / fly killer and deterrent for lots of livestock including horses and ponies.

I used a syringe to measure it into a jug of water (well the measure syringe you get in children's Nurofen - obviously keep it well out of reach after that as it's very toxic) then put it in a spray bottle from a DIY shop but also needed to rub it in his mane and his thicker fur with a sponge so did a bit of both, but he was the hairiest shettie in the world as he lived out without a rug all winter, it would be alot easier now he's moulted most of his coat out, it wasn't easy a couple of months ago!
You could do a patch test first but I think that if there was going to be a reaction it would be instant on the skin as it is strong stuff when first applied. I would concentrate on the mane/tail along the dorsal line and between the front and back legs, if there is a rubbed patch you'll be able to see there isn't anything on there and avoid treating it directly.

Great minds! I don't have the bottle to hand it's at the yard so i can't remember the dosage now I'm afraid, brain like a sieve. I did check and recheck paranoid I was going to kill him but he's still in one piece! Sounds about right though, I think I used one syringe for 250ml but don't hold me to that.
Oh and as it's a nerve agent make sure you don't get it on any hay just in case. The first dose I gave him I looked like I had a nuclear suit on, I chilled out a bit with his follow up dose and just wore waterproof trousers, coat and gloves, I ditched the goggles and hat!!!!

hi jackos mummy i use dermaline shampoo on my horses feathers when theyve got mites ,works fine -think deosect is for very stubben lice . also if your horse has lice you should throw all the bed and vircon the stable ,lice can also live on wooden fence posts and fences of course rugs and brushes!
