OMG I owned Stenigot Nightjar! I can't believe I have found a photo of him after all this time on here!Steni was the most amazing pony I had when I was 13 and I always knew he had a showing past but didnt really know alot about it, his previous owner had actual affiliated him in showjumping (JC), which he loved as he jumped like a stag and ran like a racehorse! When I bought him he was 12 and still looked every bit as stunning as he does in this picture, I have attached a couple for you to see... Could you tell me a little about Steni's past if you know? I know now he came from a breeder called Stenigot somewhere in Lincolnshire but thats all really. Do you know much about his breeding? or do you have any other photos or mentions of him in your books or papers? I would really love to know as much as you know. Also could you tell me exactly which show this was? You say its the Royal but where is that? Thank you so much for your photos it means so much so see them Kristin x Read more: horsegossip.proboards.com/index.cgi#ixzz1Y2c8rpDAFabulous thread! I have loads of old pony pics and the BSPS Yearbooks provided the inspiration for the Show Horse Annual. I could scan all night but here are a few- Line up of 14.2hh's at The Royal headed by Cusop Dignified followed by Runnings Park Hill Star, Stenigot Nightjar and Costessy Choristor?

A photo of Gem Signet (Sire of Holly of Spring) going sidesaddle champion at BSPS Championship show. It was on the front cover of PonyWorld magazine October 1978. I was luck enough to be asked to ride him in his later years. He was a beautiful pony to ride but couldn't half buck ! I was 11 years old in this photo. I feel very honoured to have ridden such an amazing pony

Thought some of you on here might appreciate some of these pictures, that I have found whilst working for Richard Deptford The Famous 'Pretty Polly' OMG - the trophy on the far right of this picture is currently on my mothers sideboard, having been presented to us at the BSPS champs this year for the Blue Riband champ!! Pretty Polly, Holly of Spring etc are all on it (it used to be presented for the HOYS Pony if the Year and the original date on it is 1951). So odd seeing it in an 'old' picture!!

I don't recall that Lechlade Quince was ever shown ridden.
Ican remember when Stenigot Nightjar was produced by Colin Rose - always full of presence and went a good gallop in his show! Racking my brains to remember name of his breeder.....

brilliant to see some of these pictures as my mare is direct descendant of many of the ponies pictured here. her sire line is pretty polly x rosslyn sandlewood then wingrove minkino x blue serenade her dam is keston royal occasion x keston royal occasion lines with a bit of katie's dream thrown into so now i can put horses to names. we are putting her into foal this spring to a stallion who is also keston royal occasion x keston royal occasion with ardencaple lines so fingers crossed it will be enough to bring the keston royal occasion linesback to the uk as having spoken to a lady in the usa who researches bloodlines she said that this should create what they call critical mass which is something that will breed true to type every time i have attached a picture of my mare

I know this is a bit late, saw the thread and decided to have a read. Gem's Signet also sired Gay Sovereign, a bay 14.2 gelding I remember watching go champion at Kent County, when I get up into my loft I will look out for a photo, I also have pictures somewhere of several famous arabs, Hassani of Fairfield, his anglo son Fairfield Chancellor, Great Heart, my pony's sire, oh and one of Black Gold, a show hack that Robert Oliver produced in the late 70,s.

Dual Gold, Kempley and Flashman all belonged to Veronica White and I looked after all 3 during the 80's all superb horses. When Dual Gold was retired he was give to Robert Oliver to Hunt. Flash died in the early 80's and Veronica hunted Kempley with the Crawley and Horsham for many years after his retirement from the ring. He lived to a good age and died if I remember rightly in 1998
