Recently i Went to a show, a county show too. I was watching a M&M class. The judge was a hunter judge. But A girl was placed first, and her pony had had its feathers cut off, it was plaited up and its tail done as a hunter. There was PROPER M&M's. with feathers and in natural condition, and yet all the true M&M's got placed down the line, and the huntr type one it. If it was a local show, it would be fine, but it was a county, and my opinion is its not fair to put hunter judges in m&m classes. My friend once told me a judge who had done dressage&jumping all day, went to help judge the RIDDEN and INHAND Championship. I don't think this is right either, as that judge had not seen how well the ponies had gone during the day, and He knew some of them so It wasnt fair anyone else? Sorry for the long moan! ;D If this is an affiliated class, then I really do find that difficult to believe. It is against the rules of all the societies to show plaited. Notwithstanding that, I also believe that all affiliated classes have to be judged by panel judges - and just because some rides or judges hunters does not mean they are not on the panel for M&Ms. If it were unaffiliated or a mixed class, then it would depend on the rules of the show. Re your second comment, a championship is judged as a separate class, and therefore the way a horse or pony has gone during the day is not relevant. Hence the second placed horse in a class sometimes being placed champion over the original winner of its class.

It could happen but surely not at a county show, im judging affiliated classes sunday and im not a panel judge, but yes in m@ms it does dictate untrimmed, unplaited etc etc. Was it a local class with m@m part breds??? That would explain it?

I agree with fmm, if it was a county show with affiliated classes the rules will state that all m+m must be shown in their natural state but may be trimmed according to their breed standard.
