Ring the local hunt and see if the terriermen will come round.

I know just how you feel the same has happened to me, it started when we noticed our 'pet' orpington cockerel was missing, and thought someone had taken him, then over the next couple of days five more went missing, the only thing though that seemed unusual is that there was no evidence/feathers left anywhere, so again we thought they had been taken, then the next morning my husband had got up early just after it had become light and there was a large dog fox in the garden around the chicken run, luckily they were all shut in and he couldn't get them. But as I said I don't know how he got the others without leaving any feathers, especially the orpington, as anyone who knows what this breed is like will know what size/weight they are and the others didn't make lots of noise or anything. I thought they always left a trail of destruction like at noddy's. Now they are locked away every night.

Don't get me started on foxes! I was out at b****y 5 o clock this morning after being woken up by the racket the hens were making. Lots of young foxes about means they will come out when it's lighter than they usually would do looking for food. Hope you get it sorted

I used to be a bit "on the fence" re foxes, but I can only say that since the ban on hunting, I have totally gone against them, they are breeding freely and a few weeks agao one of them got my neighbours cat and then another one has come walking into my conservatory, AND I have a dog who scares them off! i think if something isnt done about it soon we are going to have more terrible incidences of them attacking people, even if hunting ioesnt kill them, at least it makes them very wary of man and dogs.

The other night something (fox or badger) got into a hen coop housing our dear little silver spangled wyandot banty. It had forced the pophole up, gone in - killed & half eaten her. She didn't lay eggs anymore as she was so old but she was a character and part of our yard. I couldn't have thought of a worse death for her.

I think part of the problem is that stupid people feed them so they get over confident.

This one has taken 8 and they have totally disappeared not a trace nothing GONE! But it has killed 11 more and just left them there. We are thinking there must of been a family of them as there was 30 chickens altogether and now we only have 12 left.

Yes and because they are feeding them and not scaring them away they are getting into peoples houses. just like squirrels which are very dangerous when in the house. A squirrel got in mums house took her an hour to get it out. Totally wrecked her room luckily she didnt get bitten but what if a baby had been sleeping or playing in the room?

Yes, my neighbours feed them. Argggg. Leave out chicken bones, then the birds peck them, fly over us and drop them. Then it got stuck in the dogs teeth. Frankly the neighbours and foxes both need hunting down and knocking off.

I agree - a lot of the problem is down to the idiots who feed them! They are not pets - they are creatures who should live it the wild - they have always be a concern to livestock farmers but never like they are now because some idiots think it is OK to encourage them to become part or our 'culture' - I have hear people round here say 'Look at these pictures I have taken of a fox or badger in my garden'. These people are idiots who don't live in, or understand the real wild world of nature. Rant over!!

I have to admit I think they are beautiful creatures but a d**n pain in the ass and having seen one run off with my favourite yard kitten before Im not a fan

I firmly believe it was a very backward step banning hunting, this is what it brings about.....

Mum and I were sat watching TV at around half 7 the other night,we are right next to the chicken coop. When we heard an almighty racket, looked out the window, nothing round it,thought the bantem cockeral had started them off(he's the noisy one) five minutes later they start off again, look out the window and there is a rather large, young fox trotting along the outside of the coop. I ran out and scared it off but the poor chickens are terrified. A friend of mine used to feed one,I completely flipped at her when she told me,but she kept saying oh it wouldn't hurt anything it's just a harmless little fox! Bring back fox hunting!

Whilst I am not anti fox hunting I think that is only part of the answer - they can't hunt in subarban areas where idiots feed them!! People should realise that these are wild animals and should be treated as such - not something to encourage into your garden for your own gratification.
Wildlife programmes on TV are brilliant - but they have a lot to answer for!!

We had regular visits until I invested in a mains electric fence unit. It runs 3 wires all round the garden and has kept all foxes and badgers (who are just as bad) at bay. The added bonus was when all our neighbours shed were robbed and my daughter came in the next morning and said the fence was shorting out for the first time ever. We think the burglars tried to come over in the dark and got the shock of their lives, hopefully with their leg each side! Happy to give anyone details of fence if you want to PM me

My Jack Russell guards the chickens at night, but i do fear he may well get into trouble with the fox as he is a blooming big one and my JRT is a mini!
Upto we have been lucky, but i see the fox of an evening trotting across the fields but he never seems to like going in the field with the horses for some reason, so have moved some ponies into the chicken paddock.

There is one over my Common that is demented, for the last few morning rides it has been running alongside us bounding through the shrubs.
I do find an electric chicken fence surrounding your chicken house and run will keep them right out.

My property is enclosed with electric fence at low level, all the way round, to keep the dogs in. It also keeps the foxes out. They sit the otherside of the electric and watch me and the dogs watch them.
It does work xx
